Deregistering a Kobo ereader.
I have a Kobo GLO HD and a Kobo Forma that I want to sell or give away.
How do you deregister the devices? Do you do a factory reset or is it enough to simply sign out from the devices? TIA |

I would do a factory reset. In fact, I've done it with all the devices I've sold. Better safe than sorry.

As Sirtel says, a factory reset wipes things nicely. But just logging out of your Kobo account will deregister the device.

Beware that (I'm pretty sure) a factory reset will not revert any patches you may have applied. Only an issue if you've both applied patches, and wish to reset those for a device that will behave the same as a new one. If that is important to you then check the KoboPatch docs; I think KoboPatch will revert any that it had applied by simply removing any custom lines in kobopatch.yaml and then repatching.

I've done the full factory reset a couple of times now:
https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017765853 Basically, power off the unit, then, while holding one of the page turn button, press and hold the power button until it resets. It definitely resets the firmware version back to something a year or so old. You'll need to sync and update afterward and then put everything back on. |

Sorry about my link to a non-Forma factory reset, above. I thought this thread was tagged with Forma. But, that was another thread I was looking at. But, DNSB got it.
