Kindle Help

I have an old kindle (d0120q) that I need some help with. I am unable to register it keeps on saying there is an error while registering your kindle. Please try again later. Factory reset does nothing.

Is there anyway I can bypass this?
Thank you

What firmware is it on? It probably needs to be updated before you can register.

Install first 5.1.0, then 5.3.2.1 and then 5.3.7.3 from here (Previous Software Updates for Kinde Touch):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...510F7D3FA2B2F0

Download the update to your computer and drag/drop it to the root folder of the Kindle. Eject, go to the settings and click "Update your Kindle". Then repeat with the next two updates. After 5.3.7.3 has been installed, try to register again.

After this I figured out I was at the wrong spot and it did update the device. Still did not register it though. The device itself says it’s unregistered but maybe not on the persons account (who I bought it from). I guess I am out of luck ……
thank you for trying to help me.

I recently registered a kindle and it said either the email address or password was wrong. They weren't wrong. But on my cell phone I got a message saying to put in the 6 digit code provided instead of the password. Then it registered correctly. Do you have a cell phone number saved with your Amazon account? Does it actually say "there was an error when trying to register your kindle" or is it some other message? Mine said the email address or password is wrong.

Yeah - this is Amazon's notorious One Time Password (OTP) issue. There's nothing wrong with using an OTP to validate user identify, but Amazon needs to make the error message that they post when users do it wrong more explicit about what the problem is.

Sometimes the OTP comes in an e-mail, and sometimes in a text message. Sometimes you enter it in place of the user ID, and sometimes they expect the user to append the OTP to the user ID.

But the bottom line is that they are inconsistent, and their instructions to users are unclear.

Yeah, I'm fine with them doing this in general (although I wish there was a way to turn it off and say don't do this) but the lack of appropriate messaging when trying to register is a big problem. It says that the email address or password is wrong, when they are NOT. It should say "We've sent a code to your phone, please enter it below instead of the password" or whatever. The first time it happened, it took me FOREVER to figure out what was wrong. I initally thought the used kindle I'd bought was blacklisted.
