Not sad, I certainly wouldn't want alcoholic tea.
![]() Lots of faux San Pellegrino for me. This weekend I've been doing some of the early prep for this year's garden. Oh, and planting an apple tree -- Famuse or Snow apple. First planted in North America in Quebec in the early 1700's, this was the most widely planted apple in Quebec by the mid-1800's, but mostly destroyed by an unknown disease in the 1860's. By the 1880's it had virtually disappeared, surviving only in home gardens and small orchards, but is one of the precursors to the Macintosh apple. I had my first one in Ann Arbor in ~1970, at a farmer's market and I've wanted to find them ever since. Sweet, white fleshed, very juicy, and aromatic, it's the best eating apple I've ever had. So, I decided to grow one. |

Nope. My alcohol is limited to an occasional single malt, and a rare glass of wine if I'm having dinner with friends. Cocktails have no appeal for me. I'd probably drink more wine, but I now get red wine headaches and my DW can't have any alcohol at all, so that puts a bit of a crimp in things.

XYL? I haven't heard that in years. It always puzzled me to hear my dad ID my mom like that over the radio when "wife" is literally one syllable. |

Her request. It's helped by the fact that she absolutely loathes single malts! But it's why I pretty much drink only them now and have stopped drinking wine. I keep a couple of bottles of medium quality wine in the refrigerator to cook with -- an unoaked white, usually sauvignon blanc, and a moderate bodied red, generally a shiraz -- but that's it. There's still a few rare California Cabs in the pantry/cellar, but mostly they're all gone.

@CRussel When it comes to wine, I'm in the if the wine isn't good enough to drink, it's not good enough to cook with camp. The two of us were never enthused wine drinkers and mead is no longer an option. |

As part of my exploration of rye whiskeys:
Angel's Envy Finished Rye - rye whiskey finished in Caribbean rum casks - I almost spit out my first sip - splashed over a few ice cubes - SWEET - but I tried again and now I've grown to really enjoy its complexity - maple syrup nose followed by notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and other spices I can't name - and gingerbread at the end. Tastes best sipped very cold - might be a candidate for this summer's slushies. |
