My first shot -- nothing except a bit of a sore arm, and that was minor. Second one? Well, felt like crap the day after. But compared to shingles -- trivial!

BTW, my thanks for posting this whole thing, Hitch. It finally allowed me to get my DW to get the shot.

Oh! I'm glad. That's been my entire purpose, really, the two places I mentioned this--I guess it's three. To try to save anybody, anybody, from having this.

I mean, I had a relative with it and still didn't 'get' it, so..Proselytizing Posey, that's me, from now on, on the topic of Shingles and Shingrix. I now know a few of you grabbed 'em, so I'm really happy that I said something.

I was told, and find it's true, that Shingrix has only been approved for us in the UK since September 2021 - only 18 months ago. So I'm certainly being an early adopter in UK terms!

I had my right knee replaced last October. Sounds like you've had a tougher time with shingles than I've had with my knee, Hitch.

I think that there's expected, known to be coming, etc. pain, and then there's random, God-Taser pain that just strikes you when and where it will and it's hard to reconcile those. I find it weird to expect to be "getting better" and then I'm minding my own biz, reading a Kindle on my sofa and KABLAMMO!, something hits me that's like being stabbed by lava-filled lightsabers, or...IDK, 100 cattle prods or the like.

The other thing could be--I don't claim to be an expert in this--with surgeries like for your knee, the docs tell you "this will take about this long and that will take that and then there's PT and that will take this much more" so you have an expectation of duration. So far, my duration has been longer than originally mentioned, (as having very severe pain, I mean; it's supposed to be on the mend by now) so...IDK. Oh, and yeah, I had that not-so-great reaction to one of the "go-to" meds and had to eliminate it--so the pain came roaring back. That probably didn't help..

That, or I'm just a HUGE baby. That could be it, too.

I've had a total knee replacement, and there really isn't all that much pain. Much less than I had been living with for months, really. But more importantly, it's not nerve pain, but the pain from inflammation, mostly, and that's a completely different kind of pain, and one that's easily controlled with typical NSAIDs or mild opiates. Vicodin was my go to before the surgery. After it was ibuprofen except for the first day or so when I had demerol. But really, not anywhere close to what Hitch has had. And honestly, no pain at all by the end of the week. (Well, OK, except for PT, but that's supposed to hurt!)

Still just a slightly sore arm. So that's good. We'll see how the second does goes in April!

Temperature is -25, but "feels like" -40. The power is out for 40,000 households the last time I checked the outage map. I fear somebody is going to die from the cold this weekend, either unhoused or having no heat except electric.

Once I translate, we’ve got the same temp/feels like here. Fortunately no outages to speak of (knock wood), because this is scary cold. I’m blowing through heating oil at an appalling rate, but there’s no choice. The irony is that the house is much warmer than I normally keep it.

I can't imagine dealing with no power with temps like that. We lived in Marquette MI for 2 winters, in a trailer. With no power the inside temps would have quickly been life threateningly low. As it was it was hard to maintain 65-68.

I've been enjoying my vacation so far. But yesterday the weekend people arrived and I now have neighbours on both sides. The ones on the left are weird. Their are obviously p**sed at me.

The arrived yesterday before the 4pm check in and the digital lock didn't unlock for them. Then the wife stood in front of the window next to the front door glaring at me sitting on the couch. A little while later the couple appeared at the back, again she stood in front of the window and glared at me and started to complain to her husband about the bird feed I had scattered about. And that squirrels are just rats and that there were too many birds(if you don't like nature book a room in a hotel in Amsterdam, not a cottage at a Landal GREENparks park).

I now suspect they have family or friend in the cottage on the other side of me, since I've seen them going back and forward between the two cottages multiple times, but at the front and the back of the cottages. Each time glaring at me and muttering. Each time I give a friendly wave and then continue what I'm doing.

So I now suspect she's just ticked off that they don't have two cottages directly next to each other. Oh well, not my problem and I'm certainly not going to let her ruin the last days of my vacation.

I did have a bit of a headache on Saturday evening (36 hours after injection), and a tiny bit of nausea.

My arms still a little sore, three days after the injection.

A few days ago I was doing zapping on the tv and found a talk show where they where discussing the shingles vaccine, it is not part of the vaccination scheme here but can be prescribed by the family doctor, so when the time comes I know I will request it.
They interviewed a lady that had recurring shingles episodes in the last 20 years and she took the vaccine and since then she says she didn’t have any more episodes, they said her case was very rare because of recurrence and it mainly affected her face.

Recurring shingles??? Once was enough for me, thankyouverysomuch! Glad she found relief!!

I know someone with an acquaintance--who is in her third (3rd!!!) recurrence. I'm like NO, THANK YOU. The MOMENT that they say I can get the shot, so help me, even unshowered, dirty, etc. I would run to the doc's office or clinic or wherever and get the damned shot. I will NOT do this again. This has been insane and I'm now well into week 3 without a crap--ton of relief. Nope, nope thank you.
