I ran it thru mobipocket creator, and yes, it comes out gibberish.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

That's the only reason I was able to come up with too. But it worked on me. Yeah, I like it -- it's small enough to keep on an end table, and use in between reading a book. (on a Kindle) Not that my 13" macbook isn't small, but I told myself that learning some Linux would be good for me.

Is it an image based PDF? If so, you'll probably have to use a program with an OCR like ABBYY PDF Transformer 2.0 to convert it.

I've got an eee and find it very useful when travelling because it will fit in my handbag. It also makes a fairly good reader, especially for PDFs. I rotate the screen image and hold the eee like a book.

Dragoro: I find that some PDFs convert beautifully with Mobipocket Creator [Publisher Edition]. Others - notably the image files - are hopeless. You can try opening the PDF in Adobe Reader then going to save, and saving as text. You then have a (usually error-filled) text file which you can either proof-read and correct by hand, or use ABBY finereader, or another OCR program.
If you search the forum for threads about PDF then you will find that an awful lot of people are frustrated by the format.

Could be it has an embedded font and when that font is no longer there, what's left is a mess.

O man... you should have held off for the Apple Netbook which has been rumored for two years now, so you KNOW it will be released this June at WWDC.

BTW: Linux is pretty much like BSD that Mac run's on top of.
