From Exodus 20:11-

Quote:
For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
It would be heresy to alter the length of a week from seven days to ten. Workers need 2 days off per week. Life is already too stressful, with violence on the streets, inflation, and climate change.

This is why the world should go computer date format 2023-07-04. Everyone would know what that date is and it would sort properly.

If using numbers only, I like the 2023-02-01 yyyy-mm-dd format.

When possible, putting in the name of the month (or abbreviation) makes it clear to everyone no matter which order the other numbers are in.

That's one of the best reasons to use the name of the month in a date. Combined with a 4-digit year makes it clear what the date is regardless of the order.

I would use July 4, 2023 as that's even more clear (IMHO).

Sunday is the beginning of the week. So shouldn't it be weekends instead of weekend?

2023-07-04 globally most clear.
2023 July 4 clear to all literate in English.
4 July 2023 clear, but looks backward to anyone that didn't grow up with it.
July 4, 2023 unambiguous, but has mixed order, I wouldn't call it more clear than any of the above. What you are used to has nothing to do with inherent clarity. However it is far clearer than the absurdly common 04/07/23. And the Brits don't get off claiming 01/02/03 is clear because of consistant ordering; it is still abiguous and it is extra work to sort a list of dates. And yy-mm-dd won't sort properly for lists of dates that span century boundaries.

Some years ago I used to buy (occasionally) from AliExpress. Then I had a series of problems with credit card abuse and I stopped using services that would not allow PayPal - this included AliExpress (they only support PayPal in US ... and UK?)

So, time passes and more recently I was doing some computer upgrades and there was a particular component I was having trouble sourcing locally. I found I could probably get it from AliExpress (albeit with some delay in delivery) and I made the mistake of logging into AliExpress to see if their policy regarding PayPal had changed ... it hadn't. But months later I and still being bombarded with marketing emails about products that are no longer of interest.

This is one of the reasons why I wonder about the attraction some people have to sites that do such targeted marketing. For most products, like those I might source from AliExpress, the window of interest is small: probably days, a week at most. If I haven't made my choice and found a supplier by then, then I don't want it so stop <bleeep> bugging me!

I find July 4, 2023 is a date format everyone can understand. As for computer dates, it's supposed to be yyyy-mm-dd and not yy-mm-dd. I know there will still be a problem come year 10000. But I figure by then things will be fixed long before then.

If I remember correctly, Macintosh computers are going to have a date issue in 2048 due to the way they calculate the date. They count the number of seconds from a certain date, which will result in a Y2K like issue in 2048. However, it is likely that the issue will be resolved before then.

Do you mean the 2038 problem? Any *nix time stored as 32-bit integer will overflow.

Some time ago I started setting my calendars to start the week on Monday. The adjustment was relatively small, and having my weekends all grouped together and stacked up in the calendar just works for my brain.

Since this is the technology vent & rant thread, allow me to take this opportunity to complain about calendars which make assumptions about which day the week starts on, instead of respecting one's declared preferences.
