Hello,

I am trying to follow the installation instructions, but only Algorithm has options to select. Neither Custom Column dropdown offers any options. I've quit and restarted Calibre. I'm running 6.10.0 on a Mac running Big Sur. I can't get past the "You must specify custom columns first" error.

You must make the Custom Column in Calibre before assigning it in the plugin.
Preferences: Add your own columns
If you did do this, then the are not of the correct type (remove, restart Calibre, try again)

Thank you! The tutorial I was following didn't mention that part. I needed columns set for "integer". Then they showed up. Happily counting pages now.

Question Can't configure plugin.

I know this is a very old thread but I have just found this plugin and can't configure it. I'm using calibre 6.10.0 on a Macbook Pro. The version of the plugin, downloaded through calibre is 1.12.0. When it asks me to configure I can't add a custom column. They are all blank when I click on any of the boxes.

You have to create the custom column first in Preferences -> Add your own columns, before you can use it in the plugin. Like theducks wrote earlier.

Thank you, not sure what columns to use. It is as simple as adding a column named 'pages?'

Pretty much, yes. Add a column of type 'integers', give it the name and lookupkey you want, and pick that column in the plugin setup.

The name is not really important (as long as you know what it is ), #pages (the lookup name) is commonly used. The Type (integer) IS.
Once the column(s) have been created, you configure the PI to use the ones.
Use care to no have 2 calculations land in the same column. You do NOT need to make columns for values you will not use (I only have #pages and #grade columns)

Thanks both, I still don't understand what Integer is? When I add columns I give them a name and it's job done...

Integer is a column of whole numbers: 1,3,5,7,9...
Float(ing point) is a fractional number: 4.2, 1.4143, 42.0
Text : letters and numbers (Math is not done on these)
It has to do on how the data is stored and manipulated

If you did not choose at column creation time You got the default setting (WRONG for this). You need to delete the column, exit, the come back and add the correct type from the pull down list (below the names)

Can someone share a screenshot of what the correct custom column should look like? Not super knowledgeable about this stuff and the text explanations above are not helpful in the slightest

This is mine with formatting for 4 digits. Make sure you select 'Integers' from the dropdown.

So I have a custom column set up exactly like the lovely person's screenshot above (Thank you by the way!) and went through adding a page count to a book (File format KFX) and when put into the kindle itself it doesn't seem to have any page value? Just the location.

And to add on it seems to be giving me incorrect values that are incredibly low? 0017 pages for one book when in reality its almost 400 pages listed on goodreads.

Configure the Page Count plugin to get the page count from Goodreads and it will work as expected.
I'm sorry I'm not able to help with the KFX problem as I don't use a Kindle.
