A matter of opinion whether Pocketbook is a "real" program or not. I find that Pocketbook is NOT a real program as it is more like an application system; Pocketbook wants to have books in its own 'database' even if there is already a folder containing books as in Calibre Companion. My directory containning Light Novels got added to Pocketbook's database which I do not like as it uses up space with the duplications. Not able to select a specific font but looks to need uncheck all fonts in the font list before checking on desired font; tedious.
A big problem is that ebook "reader apps" want to have their own database for books. Moon+Reader can also have its own database/folder BUT it is not forced upon the user. I can just select a book from the directory to read without having the whole book loaded onto the Moon+ folder for books. A reader program should just read a book from the dictated folder & not 'install' it on a separate folder/database. However I do understand some want such actions to 'organize' their books when they have nothing else to organize the books; but it should not be forced on the user. |

I have used Moon+ for years on various tablets.
It is a good reader for my needs, often my default and probably okay for you too. |

Would say take BookFusion for a spin on your Android tablet. More at https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...android.reader .
Currently she will be able to read not just on her tablet but also on laptop/desktop via the Web app and also on iOS devices if she has any. We currently have a social reading experience in private beta that you could get access to that allows you to seamlessly share your eBooks with each other. More at https://www.bookfusion.com/reading/branch We will also be creating a local app that will allow you to sync between Kobo and other devices later in 2023. PS:Founder at BookFusion. Feel free to share any feedback that you might have. |

My brother has been using Moonreader + for at least 6 years on 2 different tablets. No problems. All fantasy/scifi novels. Important features for him are text-to-speech and auto scrolling. Each of the different reading apps have pros and cons - try the freebee and decide which has what you want. Then pay the $$ for the 'pro' or full version.

Moon reader elicits stong opinions, but it's the runaway leader based on number of downloads.
Kobo themselves offer a tablet app, and it's free, but I can't think of any other positives for it.. pretty featureless and I am not sure if it even works for books not bought from kobo. Bear in mind you can get Google refund on any paid app if u have used it for less than 2 hours, so try them all! |

A true cross platform reader would be a version that included the windows platform and macos, not just ios and android.
I do not have any problems with moon+; it just works for me; have tried many others and even paid for several which did not satisfy me for my usage. Moon+ pro is even installed on my win 11 under the android subsystem; works very well and smooth even if it is the Amazon's android earlier version. Thinking of installing the android moon+ apk & somehow switch it to the pro version that I've bought. Freda+ is OK on windows but it wants to load the entire epub before one can read it; kind of tedious waiting when the epub has 3000+ to 7000+ chapters as in ongoing web novels. |

Moon+ Reader is the reading app I prefer to use on my Likebook Mars, which is an e-ink device, not an LCD tablet. I avoid reading books on an LCD device unless the book uses color, and I need to tell the colors apart. What I like about Moon+ Reader is that it supports custom fonts, it has many customization options, and it supports minute fine-tuning of these options. While not as important on an LCD screen, it also supports very basic themes, such as black on white or vice versa, and it lets me turn off page animations so that I can get quick, smooth page turns on my e-ink device.

Moon+ is lousy. It doesn't respect the CSS well enough.
