Well. You are eventually supposed to return KU books but there’s no deadline for returning them. I still have some checked out from 2019. So theoretically I could keep them indefinitely.

It was 10 books in 2019, now it is 20 you can have simultaneously. That one book from 2019 doesn't cost anything extra. My own KU is prepaid for another 5 years currently. Next time Prime Day rolls around, I might add another 2 years, because I won't remember how long I am ahead ...

Blouse & Skirt , dude, you are serious with your Amz sub. 5 yrs prepaid? Is it a very deep discount per yr? Good for you, I say.

KU is good for finding new authors, so I don't really read a complete book. I'd read prologue [if there is one], first chapter, one or two in the middle and that tells me if I want to discard or go purchase the book considering I only do the KU sub 3 or 4 times per yr.

The 2year sub is usually around US$140 ($154 with tax last time I bought one in 2021). So, yes, a big savings. Even at full price it is a lot less than buying the books. My wife has more time to read than I have, and she devours romance novels, mostly series, like water.

I imagine the best compromise for this would be also opening the book in the cloud reader and using an autoclicker. Probably set slow enough that its within the bounds of normal human reading, just to be safe.

Would be simpler if you could install multiple versions of K4PC on the same computer(i.e. pre-KFX and latest), but it doesnt sound possible without cumbersome workarounds.

That's still just a long loan and will be gone if you stop subscribing. DNSB was referring to keeping them permanently by removing the DRM.

That is not true for all books.

There are some categories of book published before that date that cannot be downloaded using older Kindle for PC versions because they are only available in KFX format.

Kindle for PC normally installs under the account of the user who installed it. I have multiple copies installed and registered on my PC, each under a different Windows user.
