Converted books have slow pages.

As the title says. I've developed a sort of hobby of copy&pasting stories off fanfic *cough* and smut *cough* sites into LibreOffice and using calibre to make them into proper ebooks with covers.
My problem is the pages in these converted books take 4-5 seconds to turn. How do I fix this?

* Was suggested I use DOCX's instead of RTF's as the original file but that's worse, every other page hangs for 10+ seconds.

* RTFs read straight work fine other that having to crank the font size up drastically in the reader because it's tiny for some reason. (If you know how to stop this, that would also be helpful)

* Epubs that were always epubs work fine.

* Epubs that I make a cover for and "convert" to epub also work fine.

Do an extra Save As in docx for Calibre.

Make sure no direct formatting, only styles (though if not purist/pedantic you can use inline direct formatting for part of a line italic, bold or bold-italic, but never anything else, well maybe super & subscript, but those are best avoided except for text books).
