I do the same thing with library loans. Those are always Downloaded and Transferred as well. Amazon hasn't blocked this (yet). I am hoping that Amazon won't - because these books are controlled by the libraries, not by Amazon. Amazon might block downloading library books at a libraries request, but they shouldn't do it on their own account. I mention this use of Download and Transfer only because it appears some people may be thinking that Download and Transfer always equates to removing DRM. It can. But not always. |

General advice is fine, but I'm starting to see some step-by-step "this what you have to do" kind of posts.

That would be their problem, not mine. I have no obligation to allow a device I own to connect to the internet. I paid Amazon their asking price for my KU subscription (on sale and discounted, but still, that was Amazon's asking price). If Amazon does not forward the writers share of my payment to the authors, then the authors might want to take that up with Amazon. The payment contract is between the authors and Amazon, not the customers.

No, you don't have to connect, ever, that's the thing. You can get your books by Download & Transfer. That was disabled now for KU books, but before you could leave your Kindle disconnected for ever.

"Must connect", yes. But "must connect with your Kindle"? No.
Not currently, at least. I believe Amazon is trying to change this. To boost their profits. By collecting more data on customers. For marketing, advertising, and who knows what else. |
