Oh well, I'll use this Kindle to read until either a "combine AZW3 and AZW6 extension" for reader-imported books comes along or I find an ultra-cheap KT locally (not holding my breath on that one). |

Kindle Keyboard and Kindle 4 would suit your purpose as well. There were lots of cheap, used Kindle 4 models on sale here a couple of years ago. Perhaps you'd have more luck finding one of those. There seem to be far fewer KT models around.

Thank you kindly for the suggestion! I might be able to find some cheap Kindle Keyboard devices locally, they're old enough that there's more of a second-hand market for them here than the newer models (nonexistent second-hand, since very few people buy them to begin with).

While the existing plugin doesn’t do the job, as far as I can tell no one has bothered to ask the plugin’s creator for the enhancement. (I have no need for this feature myself.)

I just discovered this change. This is very bad for me. Is there any way to get amazon exclusive books without drm besides using a kindle?

So I just received a couple of Kindles I got off of eBay, a Kindle Touch (2011) and a Kindle PW1 (2012).
With the Kindle Touch, I am able to send a book from KU and download it via wifi directly onto the Touch, mount the Touch to my computer, and extract the AZW3 file, import into Calibre and remove DRM. With the PW1, I can do the same as the Touch, however the files are split between AZW3 and AZW6 files. Unfortunately, I cannot merge/extract the images from the AWZ6 with the AZW3 file so the images are only in B&W after removing the DRM. I tried downgrading the PW1, but unfortunately after the downgrade completed, the PW1 was not able to download any books from KU. It seems that only the "latest" firmware 5.6.1.1 which splits books with AZW3 and AZW6 files are the only working option if you're going to use the PW1 route. |

I would assume the Kindle 4 (non-touch) doesnt split the AZW for image heavy books but it would be nice for someone to confirm it. I would guess the Kindle 5 is like the PW1 and uses AZW6 but it would also be nice if someone who owns it could confirm that too. If anyone needs a free/recent book to test with you can try this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BSN2ZFRQ/ Textile Tradition of India DL & Transfer: 858 KB azw3 (color images) Paperwhite 1: 114 KB azw3 and 455 KB azw6 (black and white ".wpd" images) Last edited by Unseen Entities; 01-27-2023 at 07:31 AM. |

Another data point on where we are with Amazon's download changes: I just checked out a few library books via Overdrive. FWIW, these library loaners had Download for USB Transfer for my Kindle PW3 available from the Amazon website. The download for one was a single KF8 file, for the other it was a MOBI file. The loaners are not new books, they were released a few years ago.

I just received my new Kindle Paperwhite (11th Gen) and connected it with my account. After getting my Kindle's serial number from my Amazon account (https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digit...ole/alldevices) and entering it in the "Kindle eInk ebooks" setting of the new DeDRM

D&T not sending KFX for any device This was all muddled in with the "why can't I still steal my rentals" complaints, and I am easily confused, so which facts did I miss |

I'm surprised at the amount of people stripping DRM from Kindle Unlimited books (or at least the amount of discussion about it). It just doesn't seem quite cricket to me. KU books are rentals and because of their streaming nature the books should be read with WiFi on to ensure the author is properly reimbursed.
Stripping DRM to read them on another device feels wrong. Similar to doing the same with library books. In both cases, there's a give and take to reading these books for free or at a reduced price. If you want to read Kindle Unlimited, get a Kindle and read on it. |

However, this method worked on an eBook published on Jan 20th, 2023. If I download it with the newest version of Kindle for Mac and try opening it with Calibre's e-book viewer, I get an error saying it couldn't be decrypted. Same book, using the method described above: Works like a charm. And yes, I did buy a Kindle - but a brand new one, 11th gen. |
