For what it may be worth, I've sent links to firmware images to several people who were trying to use/implement KSM on newer hardware firmware. 2 Libra 2 and 3 Clara HD that I am aware of.

What value would i set the timeout to to have a command that runs away and does not return until the user has finished with it. Basicly i want no timeout.

Hey ! I have a problem with setting up a config file for NickelMenu. This is my "code". Of course I put removed the rtf extension and put no extension like a youtube video said to. And this is the error I get no matter how hard I try. Here is my file.
Can someone help?

Thx in advance,
TheOne

Renaming a .rtf file by removing the extension still leaves you with a .rtf file. You need to open the .rtf file in an editor that understands rtf, save it as a .txt file and then rename it removing the extension. I've done that with your sample file and attached it to this message. I stuffed the file into a .zip file since Mobileread is not happy with uploading an extensionless file.

Thank you so so much! I will try this later today

config error

Hi - please try to help...I don't know what I've not done / what I've done wrong.

I'm trying to get the dropbox menu on my Libra 2.

I downloaded NM, and the menu is showing up.
I created a blank config file and the doc file is also in the adds - nm folder

I have the following in a 'file' to open with notepad - it is not any type of file.

menu_item:main:dropbox:nickel_open:library:dropbox

When clicking on the NickelMenu button on my ereader I only get "config error" as an option > when clicking on it it comes up with the following:

parse config file: file /mnt/onboard/.adds/nm/dropbox: line 1: field 1: unknown type 'menu_item' (src/config.c:327)(src:config.c:936)

If anyone could ELI5 that would be great...this is all new to me.

Accidentally using the USB connection option when not actually connected results in Kobo being stuck on a "connected and charging" screen. If this happens, how do I get out of it?

@ownedbycats: IIRC, you... don't ;o).

(i.e., you'll have to trip a hard-poweroff with a long powerbutton press; then turn it back on after).

Unless that was fixed since, last I tested shenanigans like that and could actually programmatically trip an exit (I... don't even remember how), Nickel would just crash and reboot anyway, so you don't really loose much by just going with a hard-reboot.

And it's pretty safe to do so too; Kobo closes all the open files and databases before going into that state.

You could always plug it into your computer and eject it.

It's been a while, but I *think* that may have been one of those things I tried, and that just crashed Nickel ;o). (Again, YMMV, that was years ago, and I'm a bit fuzzy on the details. As we've mentioned before, can't hurt to try, though).

When (be a bit too optimistic to use 'if') it happens, I'll try connecting and ejecting to see what happens.

Did you make any headway with controlling bluetooth? Hit a road block?

About a month ago I messed with toggling Bluetooth with NickelMenu. I found that I could use bluetoothctl to turn it on and off but ONLY if I first turn it on in the Libra 2's menu options. Unfortunately it also turns off when the device goes to sleep. I ended up with this menu, which tells me to go turn it on before it will work:

Code:
menu_item :reader	:Bluetooth (toggle)	:cmd_output	:500 :quiet :/sbin/lsmod |/bin/grep uhid || /sbin/insmod /mnt/onboard/.adds/kobo-libra2-uhid-module/uhid.ko
  chain_success:skip:2
chain_failure :dbg_toast	:problem installing uhid module
    chain_always:skip:-1
  chain_success :cmd_output	:500 :quiet :/bin/bluetoothctl list |/bin/grep -q Kobo
    chain_success:skip:2
chain_failure :dbg_toast	:please start bluetooth from settings
      chain_always:skip:-1
    chain_success :cmd_output :500 :quiet :/bin/bluetoothctl show |/bin/grep -q "Powered: no"
      chain_success:skip:3
        chain_failure :cmd_output :1500 :quiet :/bin/bluetoothctl power off
        chain_success :dbg_toast :bluetooth turned off
        chain_always:skip:-1
      chain_success :cmd_output :1500 :quiet :/bin/bluetoothctl power on
      chain_success :dbg_toast :bluetooth turned on
If it goes to sleep while reading a book, it takes me 9 screen taps to turn on bluetooth (including a few seconds' wait for it to connect) and return to the book.

On a more fully built Linux system I would use rfkill to enable the BT antenna, but that's not available here.

I'm hoping maybe a write to the /proc filesystem will effect the BT toggle. At the very least it would be nice to have a NickelMenu option to jump directly to the native menu options so I can skip about half of the screen taps.

PS:, I ended up using NiLuJe's tools to load the uhid module on startup so my current NickelMenu setup skips that part.

Looks like bluetooth toggle might be using /dev/ntx_io. I'm not sure the best way to monkey with ioctl here.

From strace.

Code:

open("/dev/ntx_io", O_RDWR) = 55
ioctl(55, _IOC(_IOC_NONE, 0, 0x7e, 0), 0x1) = 0
close(55) = 0
