No, but I often wanted to, and would have if I could.

I have enough unread ebooks to last me until I die. I'm not going to buy any ebooks I can't change the formatting of.

There are if you watch a lot of subtitled content. And NF's subtitling display is one I'd often want to alter.

I watch everything with subtitles, except for Estonian movies. Yeah, sometimes I wish I could change the font and its size, but I'm not a big movie/TV fan and it's not that often I watch something at all. Sometimes I don't watch anything for several months. So I can live with the default subtitles. OTOH, I read every day and couldn't live with the default formatting in ebooks.

well this is strange

on my android tablet, using chrome. every book has the line saying this book sis unavailable for...

on my PC that's not happening . only the samples are saying that. not the purchases and NOT the prime reading ( which is a subset of KU). I just downloaded a prime reading book as a test antd that was OK

SO ITS A MOBILE SITE browser issue. if i tick the option to show " desktop site" in the mobile chrome browser options, and reload the page, then it matches what I see on PC. and a test download on tablet also works. I see it downloading a file...
so sorry if I caused widespread panic

and if u are in need of downloading any prime reading - go for it while it still works

It's a read for free, not a buy for free offer, and once you have 10 u have to return some to borrow more

The early reads buy one for £zero one a month s a different thing. I have some of those, in with my actual purchases, and they will download. But I wonder if next months will, as they are newly published books and should fall into the published in 2923 category

I use a desktop PC, so, no it's not just a mobile issue.

I'm used to buy my ebooks at Amazon. I transform them (stripping off drm by Calibre plugin) and collect them on my PC (Windows 10). From there I download the books to my ebook reader (Kobo Aura H2O).
Worked fine for years.
Today the 'Kindle for PC' App refused to download a purchased ebook unless I update the Kindle App. After I did the download worked but Calibre could no longer import the file.
Can anybody tell me what to do?

Register an (old) Kindle and download (for him) via USB

Yes, after reading some of this thread, download via USB still works fine. Then import to calibre and DRM removed.

If it is a newly published book, after Jan 3 2023, there is no solution

Other fixes only work for books published 2022 or earlier

Download & transfer for an eink Kindle still works for new books as well.

Kindle for PC 1.17 uses AZW, which DeDRM could break. The newest version of Kindle for PC uses a newer format called KFX, which is (except a few early versions) not breakable.

Fortunately, this only currently affects books published after January 3. I assume you have one.

If you have an e-Ink Kindle, you be able to use "download and transfer" to get a breakable format. If you don't and are not able/willing to get one there isn't much option other than seeing if book is available elsewhere. (Alas, if it's a self-published author on Kindle Unlimited, you can safely assume they're using KDP Select and exclusive.)

Paperwhite should work. Basically any e-Ink kindle ("old" is a bit of a misnomer here).
