I don't generally fall asleep reading print or ebooks, but I have fallen asleep listening to audiobooks. It's very annoying to try to find my place again after that.

I can listen to audiobooks in my car with no problem at all, but if I try to listen to them in bed, I'm out like a light in 5 minutes. Sheep-enumeration has nothing on it as a means of falling asleep!

I always read before sleeping. No matter if I go to bed at 11pm or 3am. I've never fallen asleep while reading, but it's very common to feel so sleepy that I just can't concentrate anymore and I have to turn off the reader before even finishing a chapter. Although I usually set a limit before starting reading: like read a chapter and then turn off the light. That limit is always broken, so that's why many times I don't finish a chapter. But always wait for a text break before stoping.

If I read during day time, I don't fall asleep, but I feel somewhat sleepy. Maybe because reading so many times before sleeping induced my brain to think that reading time is always followed by sleeping time.

It must be organized crime, because the hammerer hits me also, usually after 3 pages.

And as for audiobooks, well, I've said it before on MR... the iPod needs a "dead man switch" to pause it when my hand goes limp. Usually, by the time I find my spot where I was reading, I'm already dozing again!

I do have a dead man switch (It's actually called a "sleep switch" but I like your term better) for a cassette player, but I hardly ever use it any more because I vastly prefer digital audiobooks.

Precisely! We suffer from a conditioned response to force sleep after just a few pages. Darned ebooks and audiobooks are altering our biochronometers! (I just coined a new word, maybe.)

It doesn't sound bad, but I still prefer biorythm.

I like bichronometer. It's now replacing both biorythm and body clock in my speech

Oh definitely!

And This is what happens typing whilst not completely with it. But I am also now going to adopt that word as well as the one I meant to type!

Now to think of the context...

I typically fall right off to sleep when I start reading (even good books). Only to wake up a bit later and read the same page over. This process repeats itself until I turn off my little LED booklight and put my eBook Reader on the bedside table. Not sure how many hours this may go on for.

I always read before bed, sometimes it's the first quiet time in the day where I've been able to pull out my eBook to read. I never fall asleep reading, but after reading the same paragraph 3 or 4 times in a row and still not remembering what it said I know it's time to turn off my eBook Reader, roll over and wake up Hubby so he can turn his off, and go to sleep.

I never listen to Audiobooks at bedtime anymore, I'm always asleep within 10 min and then can't find my place in the story the next day. Maybe it's a hold over from being read to at bedtime when I was a child. Hearing story being read = sleep time. In any case it works better than counting sheep.

But, since I'm reading for pleasure and not for content/study/work, then I don't care if I fall asleep.

Hey thats me! your all in my heads.

Anyway, i often get cozy and just drift off to sleep, its really hard for me to sleep most of the time, ussually taking over 2-3 hours, I envy those people who can sleep right after hitting the sack.
