You think Amazon cares whether you buy from them or not? They don't. They have millions of Kindle users who happily buy exclusively from them. The tiny minority who even know what DRM is and want to get rid of it doesn't count at all. We are just that, a tiny and insignificant minority.

Of course you can be true to your convictions and proudly refuse to buy from Amazon. Just don't think Amazon cares about your approval or disapproval. They don't.

Fixed income, unfortunately. I was planning to have a little splurge and acquire the series in a month or two when I got an Amazon gift card (long-term survey). Even if they don't expand the download restrictions, I don't really want Kindle to get any more money from me for trying to lock me into their walled garden.
