And you are right there are many differences now a days from the 'original' Castellano; but I know we can all manage to communicate rather well. There are many words that one person from one area calls item X and that same word can mean item Z to another, but it doesn't mean that i can't tell him good morning or something of the sort. And as for the comprehension; I know exactly what you mean. I am fomr Costa Rica and Dominican Republic; and the family on the DR side speak SO FAST that I NEED my mom to translate. But hey I have learned little by little and it is part of my culture, and they might say things differently ( instead of saying 'puerta' enunciating the 'r' they say 'pueytah') but in the end i know what they are referring to.

However there are some variances that can really get you in trouble since the meaning of a word in one country is common and accepted but means something completely different in another country. And often that can be a profanity . ... Oh dear =X=

Here is a basic scheme of toggle keys for them: á = ctrl + alt + a or alt + 160 or alt + 0225 é = ctrl + alt + e or alt + 130 or alt + 0233 í = ctrl + alt + i or alt + 161 or alt + 0237 ú = ctrl + alt + u or alt + 163 or alt + 0250 ü = alt + 0252 ñ = alt + 0241 ó = ctrl + alt + o or alt + 162 or alt + 0243 ¡(inverse !) = alt + 0161 ¿(inverse ?) = alt + 0191 I do not have a mac =(; but I did find some instructions for macs: Mac Users When in Costa Rica most of my friends had their computers configured so they could type the accents easily with out the memorization of all those #'s
