Huh, I didn't know Bookerly had so many closet detractors. I think it's a pretty good font. Not the best. But better than many.

Maybe it's partly because I never touch the Advanced settings on fonts and Bookerly's default works well for me (same with Literata Book).

I would be unable to read without adding weight to a font with the advanced settings. Too little contrast.

First off, you can't be a "closet detractor," that's a contradiction in terms. A "detractor" is someone who belittles or defames, which can't be done if you say nothing from your "closet." Choice is good. I see no reason to detract from the font just because I don't like it.

I don't like Bookerly because it's too thin, without enough contrast. I consider it a "spidery" font, with too much white space around it. To me it's something akin to Stymie, which makes a good font for business cards or advertisements (my dad used it all the time when he made rubber stamps) but, in my opinion, it's not good for body text.

Please note, I said "in my opinion." I realize a lot of people like it and I think their choice is good for them. I'm not being a "detractor" or "hater" — I'm just making my choice.

Making it bolder helps, but it's still (too me) not a good body font.

Same here. Constantia is my choice for just about everything because it's dark and "substantial."

I didn't mean Bookerly is bad or poor, either, and didn't say so. I just said it's not to my liking. If other people like it, that's no skin off my nose. Good for them. There are plenty of fonts for everyone to find their favorites.

Yeah an overreaction, but the world seems to run on labeling people who disagree with them now. If, for example, I find Amazon's butchering of Tolkien's work in Rings of Power pathetic, I'm not someone with a differing opinion on the work, I'm a "hater."

If you use the patch to reduce word space in KePub, Bookerly is not a good font to use as it does not look good. I have tried Bookerly after using this patch.

I appreciate precise language, but don't use it in forums like this, which I think of as light-hearted conversation, unless detailed directions are being provided.

Eh, that's the nature of business, son. As a fan of horror films, I have watched classic films by great directors remade as vapid, disposable junk. But the original work still exists. Just accept that the continuation exists and might shine more light on the original work.

I have zero interest in The Rings of Power. I did like Petey Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Those Hobbit films though... Surely Rings of Power is no worse than those train wrecks.

I never realized that "detractor" has such a negative connotation. I would consider "butcher" in a similar ballpark.

It is, unfortunately. The Hobbit films are pretty good in comparison. I'm not a fan of them (I loved the books and Peter Jackson's Rings trilogy), but I'd rather re-watch them a hundred times over than I'd re-watch the Rings of Power. What a flop. Visually superb, character- and plotwise just awful. I did watch it all, just to see who Sauron was, but I almost fell asleep during every episode. Boooring.
