Neko, according to Google, ants will not cross a chalk line. (Google on: ants chalk line) So you could try chalking a circle round your desk. However, this might mean that you get suspected of being a wiccan.

Well, all the goings on related to the lawsuit against the Evil Developer has my blood pressure through the roof. So, my doctor is now officially concerned. And .... they want to do an MRI of my left wrist now. Erk.

I kept explaining to the doctor that, of course my BP is high, I have been living on sheer adrenaline for the past several weeks. And, I get a new surge every time I find new evidence against the rat bastard.

So, now I'm on BP medication to go with the cocktail of other drugs. Erk and erk again.

Oh well ....

So, I took Mamaw Moon to the doctor with me so that she could have her bloodwork done too. Then she took me out to lunch and we went to Walmart and the grocery store. She was going to have her hair cut at Walmart, but they were too booked up .... so I cut it for her when we got home.

I guess I did a good job. She says I am now her regular hairdresser. (Actually, I've been cutting hair since I was about 13 ... so I do know what I'm doing.)

Now, I just have to do some house cleaning. As you all know, my dishwasher (new) died on me a few weeks ago. It was supposed to be repaired about a week or so ago, but they called me at the last minute to announce that they weren't doing warranty work anymore. (The very last minute ... after I had waited close to two weeks for them to come out.)

So, now some company from Austin is sending someone out. Of course, they can't be specific about what time they will show up .... just sometime between 8 and 5 tomorrow. I so hate it when companies do that.

Tonight, I am going to get some housecleaning done. I'm starting to have nightmares about the floors. So ..... well, erk!

Probably too late to worry about that. (I'm not, but I think I've been tagged as "weird" by many or most of the people I work with.)

The floor is carpeted, but I'll look into this idea of the chalk. I did search Google, and found this page with a few other helpful tips: http://www.manataka.org/page1949.html

I may try the vinegar water on the desk top, but I was rather taken with this suggestion:

Put a small pile of sugar somewhere you don't mind them being, and lead a small trail of sugar to it? My only evidence for suggesting this is that the one time I've had ants in the house was when they were attracted to some sugar on the work surface!

What with the lawsuit and the dishwasher and the accident I'm not surprised you're BPs high! Hope you can come off the meds for it soon.

I wonder if it is the chalk or the colo(u)r? In parks I've often seen trees with white paint around the base of the trunk, supposedly to keep the ants out of the tree.

Probably not. The dishwasher repair tech was here today. Although I told them exactly which part had gone wrong when I called them, they couldn't order it until he confirmed that it was what was wrong .... and so now they've ordered it, and he'll be back in 10 days.

The vacuum broke today, so I have it apart in pieces on the lawn (where the cats can't pee on it, of course). The doctor told me yesterday that I can (finally) start doing some heavy lifting and cleaning (although they now want me to have an MRI of the wrist), so I've started getting SIX WEEKS of cat hair and vomit off the floors.

I told the dishwasher guy that I was sorely tempted just to light a match, torch the place and just start the hell over. However, I don't think the cats would appreciate that approach. So, I've got a heavy-duty steam gun, and the wet vac .... and I'm just blasting the stuff off.

I think the white paint is sticky, but maybe it's also chalk-based. The websites I looked at suggested that ants don't like the feel of chalk on their feet. I wonder how they interviewed the ants to find that out? Do you suppose they drew a statistically significant sample, or went with in-depth qualitative ethnographies?

I think they placed some ants on some chalk, and then watched through a macroscope (yes, there is such a thing) while the little buggers jumped up and down and tried to shake the stuff off their little feetsies.

And it is .... it so very is. I blasted out the inside of the microwave ... it didn't take me more than a few minutes to get it completely clean (and sterile too).

But .... back to Llano tomorrow to dig up more dirt on the Evil Developer.

I think I read something about a multiple choice poll - something about all the substances they hate to walk on. It was one of desertGrandma's polls if I'm not mistaken.
