Cross post to the Children/YA thread for the first three books in Chris Behrsin's Dragoncat series free (the first one)/on sale (the next two). I'm not above reading a YA from time to time, and I read the first one a while back when it was free, and I'd call it the equivalent of a "cozy mystery" - kind of cotton candy, but quick and fun. And it has a few moments that make you think. All three are also KU if you have that.

On an ancient, magical island, mortals coexist with immortals and wondrous creatures. As the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance, battles are waged and fantastical adventures unfold.

Dayworld By Philip José Farmer $1.99 Amazon, Kobo and B&N
Fantasy, Book 1
Quote:
In the overpopulated surveillance state of 35th-century Earth, humanity must sleep for six days a week — but one rebellious “daybreaker” could change everything.

Anyone read Dayworld? It sounds great. But just about every Amazon review is mixed.

Here's the Amazon link: Dayworld by Philip José Farmer

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away. I do not remember anything about it, good or bad.

Definitely fantasy. Not quite YA, but not quite "adult" either. Kinda a "soft" fantasy.

The story world of The Book of Isle is heavily influenced by Celtic and Arthurian mythos. If reading them for the first time, I'd recommend reading books 2 through 5 before book 1.

Books 2 through 5 tell an over-arcing story that spans three generations of the same family (book 4 tells a parallel story that introduces a character who plays a large part in book 5). Book 1 is very much a prequel in the "long, long ago gods and mortals lived side by side.... " sense, as it tells how the world of books 2 through 5 came to be.

The language she uses in the books may take a bit to get used to but it was fitting for the setting, IMHO.

For what it may be worth, if you have Kobo Plus, The Book of Isle: The Complete Series by Nancy Springer is available through that program. Sadly, her Enola Holmes stories are not.

Oh yeah, I saw. I'm mostly just curious why these two aren't available when the rest are.

It's a lot easier to travel on Kobo and eBooks.com then it is to travel on Amazon as you do not need to create a new account.
