ePub reader for tablet

My wife got a fine new tablet for Christmas (a Galaxy Tab S8+, FWIW).

She'd like to use it as an occasional alternative for her Kobo Libra - an ebook reader she's very happy with, but expanding the print size (poor eyesight) makes the screen seem quite small.

Can anyone suggest good ebook software for a tablet, free or paid for?

Or alternatively point me to the bit of the mobileread forum where these things are normally discussed - I evidently failed to find it.

Thanks in anticipation.

[edit - have now found the "Android" section and I am looking there. Suggestions still welcome here of course]

Moon+ Reader.

Also KOReader, which has an added plus that you can also install it on a Kobo and sync between the two. I haven't used KOReader on an Android device myself, so I don't know how well the syncing feature works.

Moon is terrible at respecting CSS
Lithium works with Calibre. Or Pocketbook if you want TTS (Text to Speech).
KOReader is good if the ebook is broken and you need to over-ride settings, but I prefer to fix the ebook in Calibre.
I do have KOReader on my eink Android.

I use Xodo for PDFs on Android.

I agree with Pocketbook. Not for the TTS but because it respects the CSS.

Oddly, several of my acquaintances who used Moon+ reader were rather surprised when after switching to Pocketbook to use TTS that the appearance of the text changed. A couple were upset by this while the other trio thought Pocketbook looked better.

I don't care about CSS as I don't believe that it is consistent across all publishers or even within a publisher.

Then I have read about so many people here deviate from the CSS by choosing their own font of choice or even how a page looks. The content is more important than the CSS; how much alteration to what the CSS represent is done by persons complaining about not honoring the CSS?

Did read somewhere here that a person prefers equal margins like what the printed newspapers do. Wonder what changes will be made by people regarding format with some experimental poems by Sylvia Plath (?) where there isn't any form or format of the lines?

Anyway I do not believe that "honoring" the CSS would make the book a more pleasurable to read or remembered or be considered something to be read again regardless how how bad the book is.

I use MoonReader sometimes, on my phone. I haven't noticed the text to be much different than that on my Kobos. And I'm usually sensitive to such things. Ofc I remove embedded fonts, side margins and line-height from the css, so perhaps that's the reason my books look the same in MoonReader and on ereaders.

I suspect that most people complaining about SW/devices that don't honor CSS are those that change the CSS and want those changes honored.

Of course, devices that ignore CSS specifying anything about plain body text are good, and publishers should never ever specify anything about plain body text. (Poetry is not plain body text and I guess that devices with insufficient margin options are defective.)

If publishers would stop mucking with plain body text, devices would no logner have justification for overinding CSS.

I second Pocketbook.

But also quite decent are Aldiko Next and Google Play Books. And an out of the mainstream app called Colibrio Reader. Colibrio is accessibility oriented and does offer TTS.

My objections to Moon+ are such things as one book of poetry where in the stylesheet, body included text-align: center; and which Moon+ promptly rendered as justified. Nothing like poems which, for the most part, used short lines which were stretched across the page to minimize your reading enjoyment.

Who hung by her toes in a doorway.
She said to her beau

I have Aldiko Basic and Bluefire on old Androids.

I only use Google Play Books, Kobo App and Kindle App for testing.

But with a decent new tablet you can try a few that are free, and I've not seen adverts. But then I only turn on WiFi to use chat/browser etc. Never while reading.

Moon+ is garbage. It disrespects the CSS. It does a poor job of rendering ePub.

No, it doesn't. It depends on what you expect from said epub. I haven't seen any meaningful differences between epubs in Moon and on my Kobos. Granted, they've been straightforward novels, not poetry or plays.

But you won't have a problem if you stay away from Moon+. Moon+ is lousy.
