It was the third written. I don't think there's a lot of continuity between books. They are just set within the same imaginary universe.

Looks like Penguin still has the standalone King Kelson's Bride and 2 trilogies: The Chronicles of the Deryni and The Childe Morgan Trilogy, so they never go on sale.

Open Road has the other 3 trilogies: The Legends of Camber of Culdi, The Histories of King Kelson, and The Heirs of Saint Camber. Oddly, even though all were released in 2016, only The Legends of Camber of Culdi was also released as an omnibus. I keep waiting, but there's no sign of the other 2 trilogies being released as omnibuses (omnibusi?).

Also, The Harrowing of Gwynedd (The Heirs of Saint Camber #1) was free for a bit in 2016, so you may already have it.

It's not the first in published order. So it depends on the order you prefer to read as to where the book falls.

I was surprised some of those early books are unavailable as ebooks. I couldn't find digital copies of Cachalot or Voyage to the City of the Dead.

Looks like I picked up book one of the Chronicles of the Deryni in 2021 on special. Currently, book 2, Deryni Checkmate is $4.99. No way I would pay $14.99 for book 3 for a book that was in paperback 30 years ago. Ridiculous pricing.

There's likely a better word than 'series' to describe several otherwise unrelated stories set in the same imaginary place. I'm just blanking right now.
