I have a 505 and love it. No hardware problems at all.

Other obstacles you might face:

1. Finding books in a format that works on a Sony. (There are lots, and more coming. Check the last ten titles you've bought to see if they are available.)

2. No dictionary. (There is a dictionary that uses an SD card, available on this site. It's still a bit clunky to use).

3. pdf files tend to lose their line break/paragraph formatting when the font is enlarged. (For some this is not a problem. For others it's very irritating.)

4. Finding the cheapest price. Expect to shop a few sites looking. There can be a $10 swing on some books.

Despite the problems above, I still love my PRS-505.

I love my 505!! I have had no problems at all.

I also have a friend who has a 505 (without her I probably wouldn't have even considered the 505). Anyway, her 505 got stepped on..which normally wouldn't be covered under warranty. She said Sony was so helpful and sent her a refurbished replacement, that actually has newer software than her first one. Again, this is just what I heard from her.

So far, I've been able to find most all the books I want...Between BooksonBoard and Sony, they have a wide Variety, and the Sony Store actually has had the cheapest prices on alot of occasions. Although I do like that BooksonBoard has the Micropay rebates. I signed up for alot of newsletters telling me when stores are having sales. So I usually try to do my ebook shopping then.

Good luck in your decision!! Let us know if/when you get your 505!!

Thanks for all the responses! It's definitely looking even more attractive now.

I'm going to purchase the 505 this weekend. I'm not sure when I'll leave my room after I turn it on, though.

The main problem I've found since buying the blue 505 is that it's made me way too handsome and charming. Whenever I'm reading it in public I keep getting interrupted by all of the women trying to get my attention, slipping me their numbers, and trying to buy me drinks. If I'd known this ahead of time, I'd have just bought the silver one instead.

Have you downloaded and used 'Calibre' written by a forum member? Wonderfully easy to use software for converting formats, adding covers, or even uploading your e-books to your reader. So simple to use even I can make it work!

Our forum member, Nick Repallo has written a great, hyper-linked dictionary available for download. No card needed.

No problems whatsoever

Except for the fact that it does not handle mobipocket books, but that is hardly Sonys fault, the makers of that format are at fault here because they refuse to license the drmed mobipocket format to readers which support any other drm format (in this case epub which is an open standard nowadays)
