Forthcoming N605 model

It looks like Netronix has just sent the FCC information about a new Kobo device. I can't work out very much from https://fccid.io/NOIKBN605 except that it uses an E-Ink display and has a software copyright date of 2023. I assume all the antenna/RF data just means it has Wifi and Bluetooth, dunno about a stylus.

The confidentiality agreements end in June 2023.

Can anyone glean any more details from the uploaded data?

The Clara 2E, Libra 2 and Sage all seem new enough. New Nia? Some other new device? Color?

Hard to imagine what they would add to the Nia. Maybe a carta 1200 screen? Add much else and it bumps up a bit too close to the Clara 2E (arguably even just the carta screen upgrade would do this). Though really I’m convinced that the Nia is primarily there to push people to the Clara2E anyway, 30 bucks gets you twice the storage and a better screen, and audiobook support.

Maybe a color device now that a few of the Eastern companies have done it. Though I dread the posts about the quality of the color and if it’s worth it already.

300ppi Carta screen to match the new Basic Kindle. The Clara would still have Carta 1200, warm lighting, waterproofing and more storage (if they gave the Nia 8GB).

The label screenshots all look black and white, but that probably means nothing. Kobo/Netronix wasn't one of the 7 vendors that were announced to be building Gallery 3 devices, so I doubt it is a colour device.

The Sage, Libra 2 and Elipsa were all released in 2021. I don't understand Kobo's numbering scheme but maybe the N605 is a small tweak to the Elipsa (N604) to try to keep relevant in the e-ink note taking market?

Or maybe a Nia bump to include Bluetooth and thus Kobo gets audiobook support on all devices.

Not really. For reading most books, an 8 inch screen is large enough. The only time I read on larger screens is tech manual PDFs on my iPad Pro. I did play with an Elipsa for marking up PDF documents and it works quite well but not something I do every day.

I'd like a bit more lightweight version of the Sage or a thinner, faster version of the Libra 2 (the form factor of the first generation Libra was great, but the screen not so much. The screen of the Libra 2 + the shape of the Libra 1 + the processor of the Sage would make a perfect combination).

Am I the only one that would like a _heavier_ one?

My trusty old Aura HD's battery lasted forever. I pretty much never charged it since it got more than enough while chatting with Calibre.

The new ones get smaller and smaller batteries due to the trend to be thin and light.

I agree that we need heftier batteries with more capacity. This need to be thinner and lighter makes the devices not as easy to hold.
