As far as I know, the Raspberry Pi 400 is capable of running the 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS.

There is now a 64-bit version of Raspberry Pi OS so that might work? I use it on a daily basis so it seems stable, but not tried to build or run Calibre 6 on it.

Hmm, I tried just switching the kernel to run in 64-bit mode, but that still didn't seem enough, now getting

No such file or directory: '/opt/calibre/calibre_postinstall'

I feel like updating my OS to 64-bit might end up causing me more issues right now with wiping files and/or breaking other packages, so might have to yet again take a look at using an older version of Calibre.

Bleh, adding buster sources and trying to install Calibre 3.9 results in a plethora of python issues, so I guess the only option is to wipe and install a 64-bit version and keep fingers crossed I can re-configure everything else…

oh yes ! and it is now stable and it s a great step forward

do not forget that if you want to switch from 32bit to 64bit version you have to change not only the kernel but the whole arch of your raspberry (meaning all lib and binaries) - you can try it by installing it on an usb stick (or another SDcard) using the Raspberry Pi Imager

cheers

qChrisChinchilla you must make a new SD with 64bit raspbian then it works fine.
Remember to keep your 32 bit SD not every thing is made in 64bit ! so boot with the 32 bit or 64bit.

I have an 8 GB RPi4 running the latest 64Bit Debian Bullseye. An apt get install gives me calibre 5.12.

I'd like to try the latest calibre version 6.1 but the installer fails with a message about the glibc version:

How are people getting around this? I used the linux install command from the calibre website:

Quote:
sudo -v && wget -nv -O- https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh | sudo sh /dev/stdin
[sudo] password for pi:
2022-12-17 11:07:10 URL:https://download.calibre-ebook.com/linux-installer.sh [33639/33639] -> "-" [1]
Using python executable: /usr/bin/python3
Your system has GNU libc version 2.31. The calibre binaries require at least version: 2.34 (released on 2022-02-03). Update your system.
So stock 64bit bullseye on Pi4 uses glibc 2.31 but calibre 6 installer requires at least 2.34?

Quote:
ldd --version
ldd (Debian GLIBC 2.31-13+rpt2+rpi1+deb11u5) 2.31

Thanks Kovid,

Might be worth a blurb on the linux calibre download page as it will help a lot of Raspberry Pi users. Somewhere near this line:

Quote:
You need GLIBC 2.31 or higher and libstdc++.so.6.0.28 (from gcc 9.3.0) or higher to run calibre
For any other RPi 64 bit user having issues installing a 6.x version of calibre, this tip as well as "sudo apt install libegl1 libopengl0" did the trick for me.

I agree with you Ronin about an edit to the Linux page. The part about intel compatible machines caused me to near give up on getting a 6.x version on my Raspberry Pi. I see on another thread that you have been able to install ver 6.7.
