[Kobo Clara HD] won't update

Hello,

Since a few days, my Kobo Clara HD won't update.

I'm connected to Wifi and I'm getting "Sync Failed. Please try again." when I try to update.

I'm running the 4.34.20097 version 9/15/22.

Any idea why?

Am I the only one having this problem? What can I provide to solve it?

Sometimes libraries/accounts with some specific characteristics quit being able to sync. It might be your case, I don't think it's related to a bug with this firmware version since not a lot of people have reported on this.

This happens to me every few months. I've lots shelves/collections (45) with two of them holding most of my books (around 1400), most of my books are sideloaded, but I have around 350 that are stored bought and synced.

Same thing happens to me on KOBO Sage.
After updating to 4.34, I am getting Sync Failed error message.

Reverting back to 4.33 all is OK.

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

4.32 is better than either 4.33.x versions for Sage.
4.34 has a few bugs:
* Saving an Advanced notebook. It seems to not finish, but cancel and redo is instant.
* Text search in newly opened book sometimes only can search previous books
* Opening a book from Search requires you to go back to "My Books" and reopen or sometimes the location isn't saved if you read without doing that.

I don't think 4.32.x has any of those bugs, but 4.34 has the turn pages on PDF cropped feature which is vital.

How did you revert to 4.33? And how do you prevent 4.34 to install again automatically?

You can download older Firmwares from here:

Just unpack the zip file to the .kobo folder. Safe eject, wait for your kobo to update.

Not sure about how to prevent it from updating on next sync.

I'm experiencing the same issue with my Kobo Aura H2O edition 2. Same software version, 4.34.20097

Same problem here, on Kobo Aura HD. Just downgraded now to version 4.33.19759 and it (sync) immediately worked again. While the latest fw was released in september, I'm almost sure this issue is recent as I once in a while cheked if a new firmware was available, given that my old model was receiving new updates at every two or so months. Definately an issue related to firmware.

Before this, I've checked all my home network settings, tried public networks, re-added my sync accounts and no dice. All I'm interested is in fw update tbh and I guess I'll just keep wifi off until a month or so from now, hopefully with a new fw that fixes this.

Just to add to my previous post since I can't edit it:

I've just upgraded to firmware 4.35.20400 and the issue came back (connects to the wifi network but is unable to sync); I figured it'd be something to do with my linked account (under Settings > Accounts > Kobo Account). I removed it and after an almost mini heart attack where the device rebooted and asked me to log in with no option to skip it and use offline (IIRC I've read there's workarounds it), I was able to dig my credentials and proceed to log on and it's now working fine.

I haven't downgraded to a previous non-working version but by now I suspect it was something to do with the stored logged in session. Before, I've just re-sync and tried to repair account, never actually signed out. So there's that...

Try 4.34.20097 if you have not.
