I've ordered one from Amazon for £109.99, everyone else is back up to £129.99. It's going to be my birthday present from hubby. I'll then sell my Clara HD. Not in stock yet but should be within the month. My birthday isn't for a few months yet so no hurry (she says!)

I'll tell you, given the work on it, it was tempting to keep the 2E myself and just gift the older HD. Luckily, I decided not to be tacky.

At least the Paperwhite you have the option of receiving it already set for that person's Amazon account.

I found out not to log my account in to someone else's reader, even if it is your spouse. Kobo dumped all my collection names to the 2E even if there were no books on the device that fit that collection, leaving the device with many empty collections. (Why would collections sync if books don't?)

I wound up deleting all the sideloaded books, creating a new account and then re-adding the books.

I was really impressed with how much nicer the 2E screen is. I'd like one, but can't justify replacing my perfectly functioning HD. I do want the waterproofing, more than I want the nicer screen. But my old Nook Glowlight Plus is waterproof and works when I need it.

If you're always saying "My old device can do it just as well", then you're never going to buy anything new. Not unless your old devices give up the ghost for good. And we know ereaders can last for more than a decade.

Me, I don't justify anything. If I want a new device and can afford it, I'll buy it. Justifications be damned. I do usually sell my old devices, though, not leave them gathering dust.

I’m a terror for e-readers, I always get them in the end This time I thought at least get it while the HD is still worth selling.

Yes, that's a consideration for me too. Don't postpone upgrading until your previous device is too old and battered to sell.

Not that I constantly upgrade any gadget and machine I've got. My TV is 8 years old, still going strong and I feel no need to get a new one. My washing machine is even more ancient. Gadget lust only overwhelms me in the case of ereaders.

I guess I'm just very thrifty. And I don't tend to sell my old devices. It always feels like more hassle than it is worth.

Depends on how old they are. I wouldn't bother selling a device which is 6-7 years old or older, unless it's in mint condition, and possibly not even then. I'm also usually pretty gentle on my stuff, so my older devices tend to still look nice when I sell them. There have been exceptions, though.

I bought a 2e from amazon and got it on Sunday.
Side by side with my hd, it's hard for me to see any differences. I've compared lighting, font sizes and I can't tell which is which until I turn them over.

I downloaded a 'free' sample of an audiobook, connected to a bluetooth speaker to listen, but I won't buy audiobooks from kobo and the other method (zip and rename mp3s) has a horrible interface. Can't get audiobooks from Overdrive on a kobo either.

I use magnetic cables so the usb connector on both are the same for me.

The best part of the 2e is the button on the back.

Not complaining, I like my kobos, but the 2e is sort of underwhelming for a new device.

Man, for me there was a... well, i don't want to say a massive difference, but it is noticeable. Font sizes you shouldn't be able to tell a difference, since both devices use 6" 300 ppi screens.

The 2E is a gift that I only take out to fiddle with and then box back up. Tonight I'll try taking it out and posting side-by-side pictures with my HD. Hopefully the difference comes through in a photo. In person, you can clearly see a difference.

Mine has just arrived. Unfortunately it has a dead battery so I can’t even set it up until it’s past 20% power as I can’t get past the update software screen
