Question CAN SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME GET CUSTOM SCREENSAVERS ON MY PW5

FYI I'm a noob to all of this, but I just finished jailbreaking my PW5 5.14.2
and honestly the only reason I wanted to was to get custom screensavers. Thing is I'm not sure how. I read a couple posts on here but nothing that's for the PW5. Is it even possible to do this? Idk I really want to get it to work, so if you can help me thanks.

Here is my approach. Unluckily, the description is in Chinese. To be brief, you should put your pictures into `/usr/share/blanket/screensaver`, and name them correctly. And a further file-name shuffle may be useful. You should be careful to edit the `/usr/share/blanket/screensaver`. It can be risky.

With this firmware level you should have a setting to enable cover mode, so do NOT install the screensaver hack from here. I don't have this firmware, so I don't remember exactly where in the settings this is located.

You WILL want to install KUAL and the rename OTA binaries extension to keep your PW5 at 5.14.2 firmware, unless you plan on keeping it in airplane mode at ALL times and side loading all your books.

You might want to install USB Networking to allow you access via SSH in case you need it for problem recovery.

So my Kindle PW5 running 5.14.2 does not have the option to use cover mode. I do plan on just side loading so I don't think I need KUAL.

Have you registered the PW5? I believe you need to do so to enable this feature. Of course you will definitely want to have renamed the OTA binaries before you register, or you will find yourself upgraded to the latest firmware almost immediately. The easiest way to do the rename is via the KUAL extension.

I believe there was a mention of how to enable this manually by editing one of the configuration files, but I did not take that route when I was setting a KT3 running 5.14.2 up.

Dave

PS: found the reference to enable the preference:

Don't bother with usb network hack or in general, stuff you are not familiar with, but I would recommend KoReade.

Keep in mind that the above screensaver hack and the native cover mode serve the same purpose and should not both be used.

Well, yes and no. They interfere with one another, so don't turn both on at the same time. But the native one just gives the option to use the cover of the book you're reading, as screensaver. The hack gives in addition the option to use your own picture or pictures.
I believe I have around 20 self made screensaver which change every time I lock the screen.

Left out the "simultaneously" in my comment. Thank you for clarifying the point.

My suspicion is that many will be happy with the book cover mode, which makes the hack an unnecessary complication. I use the hack in cover mode on an older Kindle running early firmware, but I use the native cover mode on a new Kindle with 5.14.2 firmware.
