FYI I'm a noob to all of this, but I just finished jailbreaking my PW5 5.14.2
and honestly the only reason I wanted to was to get custom screensavers. Thing is I'm not sure how. I read a couple posts on here but nothing that's for the PW5. Is it even possible to do this? Idk I really want to get it to work, so if you can help me thanks. ![]() |

Here is my approach. Unluckily, the description is in Chinese. To be brief, you should put your pictures into `/usr/share/blanket/screensaver`, and name them correctly. And a further file-name shuffle may be useful. You should be careful to edit the `/usr/share/blanket/screensaver`. It can be risky. |

You WILL want to install KUAL and the rename OTA binaries extension to keep your PW5 at 5.14.2 firmware, unless you plan on keeping it in airplane mode at ALL times and side loading all your books. You might want to install USB Networking to allow you access via SSH in case you need it for problem recovery. Dave |

I believe there was a mention of how to enable this manually by editing one of the configuration files, but I did not take that route when I was setting a KT3 running 5.14.2 up. Dave PS: found the reference to enable the preference: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...20&postcount=3 Last edited by dhdurgee; 12-07-2022 at 05:09 PM. |

For the screensaver: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=195474
To prevent ota Updates: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=25 Don't bother with usb network hack or in general, stuff you are not familiar with, but I would recommend KoReade. |

Well, yes and no. They interfere with one another, so don't turn both on at the same time. But the native one just gives the option to use the cover of the book you're reading, as screensaver. The hack gives in addition the option to use your own picture or pictures.
I believe I have around 20 self made screensaver which change every time I lock the screen. |

My suspicion is that many will be happy with the book cover mode, which makes the hack an unnecessary complication. I use the hack in cover mode on an older Kindle running early firmware, but I use the native cover mode on a new Kindle with 5.14.2 firmware. Dave |
