In a nutshell, the current version of Sribe's PDF reading app is as rudimentary as Scribe's note-taking software.

I do expect much better software come 2025/26, though, and Color (Gallery 4) Academic Scribe , in the meantime Koreader could again prove to be our last remaining hope, this time for a decent 300 dpi 10" pdf/djvu e-reader.

I have the Libra 2 and Oasis 3 and, to my eyes, the Scribe screen is as good, if not better (with the front light on). The light is also very even and pleasing.

Just got my Scribe, and did a little digging to see how the Send to Kindle service differs for it...

I didn't see it mentioned earlier, but it looks like all personal docs (or at least ePubs and PDFs, which are the only ones I've tried) get converted to KFX files for download to the Scribe (which would also explain why you have to send PDFs to an email address to get them off the Scribe). As a happy side-effect, this means personal documents now seem to have enhanced typesetting...

That information differs from what another posted previously. I am very curious about this. Could you send a non-copyrighted file to your Scribe and post the resulting files that appear there?

(For KFX you need to also post the contents of the associated .sdr folder to get everything.)

My Scribe arrived today. It is definitely larger and will be good for reading. I've taken a photo with my Oasis, same font face, font size, bold setting, brightness and warmth to show how much more reading before requiring page turning the Scribe offers. The Scribe has too large a bottom margin. I did not take a photo but in Library view using grid setting where the Oasis displays 6 covers the Scribe displays 12 and in list view the Scribe shows 8 titles to the Oasis 5.

Wonder if this will be true for all Kindles (and Kindle apps) at some point. I would welcome it.

I don't use Kindle for reading PDFs, it would make no difference to me if they got converted to fixed-layout KFX, as long as they have the same appearance and allowed annotation (currently not supported in Kindle apps). Exporting to PDF would be a bonus, especially if they become standard PDFs with standard PDF annotation that can be used anywhere.

Seems this could potentially be a way of supporting Print Replica as well, instead of hacking the existing PDF renderer or adding another one.

Yep, those are attached--an ePub from Standard eBooks and a PDF from a government report.

I would not change your Libra 2 for a Scribe. What I suggest is keeping the Libra 2 after you get the Scribe because the Libra 2 is a lot more portable.

Even more wasted screen space. Thanks Amazon.

Can you use negative margins with the Scribe to get rid of the wasted L/R margins?

Thanks for posting those.

Amazon is definitely using KFX format for personal documents on your Scribe and they do not have any DRM, unlike purchased books. Hopefully this change will be coming to other Kindles in the next firmware release and also the Kindle apps.
