download & transfer via USB stopped working (AGAIN)

On the Amazon page Manage Your Content and Devices under More Actions for each book is Download & Transfer via USB but it's no longer downloading the book to my PC. No idea if this is a temporary glitch or whatever. It still brings up the little window saying "Transfer Tip: After downloading, use your USB cable to connect your computer and Kindle. Your Kindle will appear as a drive on your computer. Copy your downloaded file from your computer to your Kindle's documents folder."

After I select my kindle and click the Download button I get a little window saying "Success Download your Kindle content to your computer via Your Media Library." I can't remember what it said when it was working.

But my computer never gets the file, and I never get the little bell when the download finishes, and the firefox window that shows all downloads doesn't show it.

I have no idea what they mean by "Your Media Library".

from 8 months or so ago, but sure enough, I'm able to download the books with Edge.

You need to tell your browser to Allow Popups for amazon.com. There seems to be a recent trend to disallow popups on all websites.

The last time I had a similar problem, just a few days ago, allowing popups didn't fix the problem. I'm going to wait and see if Amazon fixes it on their end.

Just tried it in Firefox in Linux and it worked fine after I allowed pop-ups. This is the first time Firefox in Linux has demanded the pop-up authorization. Looks like Amazon has "confusified" their download menu (bits and pieces of it seem to be everywhere). It was so much cleaner and simpler before. But, the good news is, it still works.

I just successfully downloaded to my computer's desktop a chicklit novel.
I just chose the download via usb option, clicked buy, said which kindle I wanted to use (it was already filled in) then the download message popped up. I clicked 'save' and the book is now on my desktop.

I use firefox, an ad-blocker, but haven't updated firefox for a while, though it keeps nagging me to do so. Maybe if I update firefox the troubles will start.

I don't understand why you haven't been in touch with Amazon via chat. This is the first thing I do if I have a problem with them (recently had a delivery of posh cat food with the tins blown open - probably from the heat. They refunded without me having to send the disgusting mess through the post.)

You may be doing something during the download process which is affecting the proceedure. You haven't mentioned this because you're not aware of it. Or maybe they have changed things. Don't settle for the first person you chat to, ask to chat with a 'superior'.

When it is working with Safari, an empty tab will open up that indicates the download is working. Again, you need to allow popup windows (Websites preferences, Pop-up Windows).

If the tab has been open awhile, sometimes it ‘forgets’ that it should allow pop-up. A Refresh of the page should fix that.

Firefox works as well; I don’t remember having to tell it to allow pop-up, but I got a system dialog that asked what I wanted to do with the file: open in or Download etc. for the first download (it had associated calibre with .azw3 extension) and I think a ‘remember my choice’ checkbox (which I checked). After this it just downloaded without asking.

Since this was written above they failed "Download & Transfer over USB" at purchase time. Then later they removed the option and put "Deliver to your Kindle Library under ( Buy Now ) button.

Now the Download is only under More Options at the book or magasine in your "Manage Content and Devices" AKA your Kindle Library.
