Can the current Kindle 6.8 be jailbreaked?

Im seeing some good black friday deals, and Im tempted. But Ill only get it if I can jailbreak and install Koreader. Same question for the Oasis. Im looking at Amazon.ca.

It seems the latest FW is 5.14.3, and it cannot be jailbroken. It seems possible that one would get 5.13 FW on a brand new Kindle out-of-the-box, but it's not worth the risk for me.

It's a crap shoot. Only buy the PW5 is you are prepared to keep it should it not be able to be jailbroken.

I can not understand why anyone would want to do this. Reading is reading. There is no need to change the devices software

I did not like KOReader. It's a kitchen sink interface. Any feature someone comes up with is there, and things that should be simple are buried 2 or 3 levels in the menus, if you can even find it. Someone needs to fork it and strip it down to essentials.

It was an interesting exercise to jailbreak my Oasis but I had no reason to keep it that way.

Did you ever check to see whether it could help resolve your disappearing books problem?

If you are wanting to use KOReader, you could get a different brand Reader that KOReader will work with.

I got a 6.8", 8gb kindle for kids because it was the cheapest offer. came with 5.14.0, which I upgraded to 5.14.2 and jb.
