How to Use - for the NON-Programmer
Simple question. I read books. But I am NOT a programmer. I have no idea about Python scripting - but would like to use plugins such as this.
Is there a link I have not found with STEP-BY-STEP instructions on how to set this up (in non programming "speak")? |

Well I have gotten that far.
I have gotten the plugin to work - although it took a few times around to figure things out. First I didn't see the link to the add columns in the menu - but added the columns myself (made one mistake - fixed it - using #lclead rather than #lcead). Then I had problems with not figuring out about the genres. But then found that separate menu item. But given that - I would like to change it to using the LC Genres - and I get error messages when I try using the menu to link to the csv files (both don't work - when I do it this way - but I am not sure I am doing it right - just the "intuitive" way). I'm also not sure why the genre only finds genres for some books - that have the Dewey Decimal Code found. It would seem to me that all the ones that found a DCC would get the genre column filled in when using that menu. (Again I had to stumble upon that this was done using a different menu option - and not when the initial search is done using either the isbn or the oclc column). |

So How Do I Get the LC Genre to Work
I have everything working - as far as I can tell. It doesn't give me the Genre unless I use the menu after running it - to then add to the Genre column (isn't it supposed to include genre with the rest when simply run?).
But when I use either of the two LC files (and what is the difference - which should I use - or am I supposed to somehow use both) - using the menu to add it - it tells me there is an error. I'd really like to get it working to get the Genre set using LCCs rather than Dewey. Also I notice that when using the default Dewey version - it only provides a genre a little less than 50% of the time. Is that normal? |

Version 1.0.52
Version 1.0.52 - 2022-04-19 If a return code of '4' is received, and its attributes include 'wi' (not 'owi'), create a new RC of '2' using the syntax http://classify.oclc.org/classify2/Classify?wi=nnnnnnn
Also Calibre minimum version is now 6.0.0. |

I apologize for not testing this after your original release, but life had me off on another tangent.
I just ran some isbn's through, and the following ones failed. The same ones produce a result in the Classify Web Demo and in the Classify API Demo. They all return a code 4 with each item having a "wi" attribute. 9781937907495 9781571741035 9781571740564 Thanks, |

Sid, regarding your 3 special ISBNs, they got caught in the "eBook"/"Book" format preference from earlier this year: Quote:

Book vs eBook
Got it. So your change for that did not make it into the production release? Any plans to upgrade the production release with the book/ebook change?
Thanks, |

OK, sorry, I didn't catch that it was a new release. It all looks great. Thank you.

Second problem solved! Noticed from the screenshot lc_genre needed to be hand-created and now it works.

The Original Post, including its attached files and images, contains all of the information and instructions to easily and efficiently use LC for the first time.

For #lc_genre, I noticed it uses ">" to split parent from child genres, but Calibre, as I understand it, uses periods "." for sub-categorization by partition. Is there a way to have LC use periods instead of ">" in the genres?
