5.38 to Calibre 6

I'm on ver. 5.38 and thinking of upgrading to Calibre 6; if things go south, can I easily revert to my current version? (I'm on Windows 10)

It should be fine, though you'll need to uninstall to downgrade. (Don't use a clean uninstaller for this; it risks nuking your user settings and/or library db.)

What do you mean by a 'clean uninstaller'? I would uninstall from the Control Panel/Programs and Features. I also keep my library and the configuration folder backed up in multiple locations.

Yeah, that's fine. I'm referring to third-party programs that clean out leftover files after uninstallation.

Do all your (installed) Plugins support 6.x <---

FWIW I would run Library maintenance BEFORE. (just to rule out those kind of issues)

And wait for the metadata backup status to settle to 0 (if things needed fixing)

Before the upgrade, I would copy your configuration directory. That way if anything goes south, you can restore it along with the current version of Calibre.

One plugin you should upgrade if it needs it before you upgrade Calibre is DeDRM. Make sure sure it's at 10.0.3.

The URL for 10.0.3 is https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools

Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for the tip; everything was in order for both libraries when I ran the maintenance. As for the plugins, I already had some idea that the ones important to me were ready.

I back up my configuration directory once a week (I learned the hard way a long time ago ). Thanks for the reminder on the DeDRM plugin - I was still on 7.2.1.

After all this, I successfully upgraded to 6.8 and everything looks good for now.
