Approaching the last three episodes of the Spanish Series 'Money Heist'. It has been a log complex and very twisty story but I have enjoyed it. Two friends found it too violent and xexually explicit. I may be an old cynic but I didn't expect a bunch of violent criminals to act any differently!

Watched the first episode of "1899" on Netflix, and I have absolutely no idea what anything was about. Completely gobsmacked.

Last night I watched the first four episodes of The Watcher on Netflix. It started out strong, but I'm not sure I like where it is heading. It's based on a true story, but the series being written by Ryan Murphy means that so many new elements were added that it isn't a believable story any more. The story could have easily been kept in reality, with a bit of embellishing and still be a good thriller. But adding so many new storylines I'm wondering if all will be resolved in the end.

So until I get my babelfish, I'm limited to watching TV that is filmed with actors who are speaking my native tongue. I still try watching subtitled (subtitled because the language being spoken is not my own) or dubbed TV/Movies from time to time just to see if my tiny brain has evolved any since the last time I tried, but I'm not holding out much hope at this point. I'm destined to read books and to watch TV. And rarely the twain shall meet. *shrug* Last edited by DiapDealer; 11-22-2022 at 12:39 PM. |

It's not merely dubbed TV. He has the same problem with most US- and UK-shows, too, especially the UK shows, which go through a lot of processes before being able to be cast here, and those have sound issues, too. I've lost track of the shows that get piped through, in Streaming, for example, that are actually in stereo--stereo!--not Dolby, etc. so you lose the main center voice channel and those are totally lost to him. We are constantly trying to find stuff that he can hear adequately. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, in many instances, it is shows from 20-30 years ago that are "hearable" and not hoes made today. (Don't get me started about layered sound effects.) (sigh). What I hate even more is when they dubbed it in the accent of the original speaker. BBC did this, even in news programs. So the French president, for instance, would be dubbed in English with a French accent. I always found that so distracting, but luckily they've changed that, at least at the BBC. |

About The Watcher, I was right about it being frustrating. I knew that in real life they never found out who wrote the letters, so I expected that from the story. But so many (unnecessary) story lines were left hanging that it was annoying.
Because of rain I won't be taking a walk this afternoon, so I'm going to use the stationary bike. I usually cycle half an hour and I found that the series Mr. Midnight: Beware the Monster has episodes of around half an hour. So I'll watch that when cycling. Tonight I'm going to start with Wednesday, which should be out later today. |

It took a while but I've gotten used to subtitles. I think they actually help my concentration a bit - I've always had trouble remembering character names and seeing them seems to help.
--------------------------- We finished S3 of Crimson Rivers - another pretty good French series, hope a S4 comes along. Now watching and so far enjoying Dalgliesh. -------------------------- Looks like inflation has taken its toll on 99 cent Prime channels - they more than doubled to $1.99 this time around! I'll bite the bullet and get Britbox, not sure about Acorn or PBS this time... Edit> Now that I look, I don't see Acorn in the list of discounted channels - very disappointing. I'm ok glancing at subtitles for clarification. It's only a problem when reading them closely/constantly is required to understand the plot.

Not that I'm aware - this is a Commissioner Niemans and Lt. Delaunay, a meaty sidekick role with plenty of attitude.
