Option to add characters in metadata

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be a possibility to include an option to add characters from the book directly to metadata. In the same way we can now add tags for genres.

This would greatly help to quickly filter all the books with a character named XZY, etc. Especially handy for books set in universes with 100+ books.

I've tried searching for a plugin but couldn't find any.

Easy. The Multi-Column Search plugin has had that extract-then-update-a-custom-column functionality for years after it was specifically requested by Fan Fiction users. See the "TXT Query" Tab in MCS. There are explanatory images in the first and the second Original Posts. Read the ToolTips of every widget as well.

If you do not download your FF in .TXT format, you can either add a .TXT format to your other formats (via Conversion), or use the new Calibre FTS Full-Text Search feature for your FF Library. MCS looks for the .TXT format first, and then secondly FTS. Either way works. MCS considers the text of a book as a "Virtual Metadata Column".

There are some recent posts concerning the above in the MCS thread. Example: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...7&postcount=12

You will need the "OR" operator in your regular expression, "|", so you can perhaps use just one or so for all of your Universes.
