Well, the Ohio Liquor Control website let me down. No Uigeadail at that location. And no slot for it either.

Only the 10yr Ardbeg.

After talking myself off of the Lagavulin 16 ledge, I settled on a couple of new gins (new for me) so as not to completely waste the trip. One was an Islay gin, so my mission for some Scottish booze was at least partially realized!

Folgers medium roast. We'd been stocking up on coffee so already have a year's supply. Hopefully, by the time I need to buy coffee again, the prices will have come down a bit. Not counting on it.

Will do. And yes, it's "The Botanist" by Bruichladdich. Made from 22 foraged island botanicals, but otherwise billed as a juniper-forward gin very much in the London Dry vein.

I'm probably going to crack it open tonight.

Cold brew, home-made, Camano Island Sumatra dark roast beans. With home-made hemp milk. So good! Even on a cold day at 23F.

Not cheap though, so it's a rare day I have more than just one single carefully measured cup.

Very impressed with The Botanist! For sipping straight, it could be my favorite gin so far. Very crisp, very clean. The traditional juniper/pine is instant, but quickly moves to a citrusey blend. I'll have to try it in a G&T or Martini. Not sure how they packed all those botanicals in there without it being perfumy/floral but they did.

I contrasted it with Hendrick's (my favorite G&T gin), Nolet's Silver, and Bombay Sapphire.

The Nolet's is the furthest from a traditional London Dry Gin that I've tried. Very peachy. The Bombay Sapphire bottle will probably never get finished.

Same. My appreciation of gin is a relatively new development. And it came from 1) the dirty martini. And 2) the discovery that not all gin tastes like you're gnawing on a pine tree that's been doused in cheap perfume. Only most of them do.

That is exactly my description of the mainstream gins I've sampled.

I've been branching out from strictly imbibing single malt Scotch into new areas - like the dry rye whiskeys. A dry drinkable gin could be tempting.

So, I managed to get to a different BCLiquor store today, and scored a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Looking forward to tasting it. Meanwhile, drinking faux San Pellegrino while sitting on the Ferry.

Trying a new local bourbon - Conviction. Its much smoother than I would have expected and almost has some sweet notes.
