Why? Did you miss multiple pages of hmmmmm! maybe I better not shop at Amazon anymore! responses to this poster.
In my world that's called defamation when an entity has been harmed by unfounded claims/rumours. |

Simply broadcasting the facts of a situation (again, assuming Ian's statements are true) doesn't necessarily qualify as defamation. |

There aren't any proofs or facts of Ian's statements. When pushed he became quiet and all of a sudden he was reinstated at Amazon.
He came in here, stirred the pot, muddied Amazon's name, and *poof* gone. |

And if the same thing happened to you, wouldn't you have asked for some help?

If you were in business in a small town and someone marched into the Tuesday morning Rotary club and announced; "dmaul completely suckered me over!!!" and gave a convincing argument but no proofs and left after riling everyone up to the point where the bandwagon convened, most folks jumped on it, and all of a sudden the most of the town decided not to do business with you because of some stranger, don't you think you as the business owner would be pretty damn livid?

Hi all-
My only intention in posting my experience here was to express my shock and confusion at being banned from Amazon and to ask for help as to how I might go about resolving the situation. I certainly received that help; many people suggested that I follow Amazon’s own contact procedure and write a very professionally, kindly-written note asking for them to review my account for a second time… which I did. In turn, Amazon responded very quickly and professionally, and restored my account with no hassle less than 24 hours later. The reinstatement indicates that while my purchasing history had clearly raised some sort of flag, Amazon was willing to look at the issue once again, and they wound up welcoming me back… in less than a day. I had been accidentally caught up in a (very appropriate) sweep designed to catch fraudsters… and Amazon fixed everything very quickly. Once my problem was solved, and I reported everything back to this forum, I hadn’t planned on posting any further. However, I’ve naturally continued to follow this discussion, and after reading some recent comments, I feel the need to contribute just once more. While I very much appreciate the ongoing discussion about the possible dangers and pitfalls of DRM, I wonder if perhaps this particular thread hasn’t run its natural course. As others have indicated, many of us have had a variety of positive experiences with Amazon.com, myself included. Are people here serving any positive purpose by bashing them after they so quickly and clearly resolved my own situation? And, to be honest, is there any point in people continuing to bash each other? Just my (final) two cents. Thanks again, all, and be well- -Ian |

Ian, I think you are completely making this up because you are Anti-DRM and want to demonstrate a scenario in which it could be harmful to the consumer.

Except that it happened to a bunch of other people last fall. Consumerist even covered it. Did all those people make up their story as well?

I wasn't aware this was a pro-Amazon-only message board. If Ian's statement of the facts are true, he had some valid grounds to be unhappy, yet his comments throughout this thread can hardly be considered unnecessarily critical of Amazon and their business practices. Claiming he shat on Amazon or anyone here is going a little far, in my opinion.
He also brought to light the very real potential that Kindle owners (and users of any brand of ebook reader, for that matter) could at some point lose access to previously purchased material. A discussion about that issue and what users can do to protect themselves is worthwhile. Fortunately, with only a few dozen posts under my belt, my comments are nothing more than doggerel. Carry on. |
