[GUI Plugin] Count Pages

Didn't even know Count Pages worked on CBZs, been entering it manually for years

Might be worth a mention in the first post.

Minor nitpick, if there is nothing to count (i.e. no format files) the error only shows the Book Title, all books on the CBZ library I happened to just try have Title Unknown - could the error also show Author.

@kiwidude, sorry that i write to late
cbz is only zip with pictures, only reader must support there picture format to show there as comics

Just downloaded this and made a custom column but it does not show as an option in the plugin, any idea please?

Did you restart calibre after adding the custom columns?
Also did you set the right column type for the columns?

Thanks it was the column type.
Two questions: one can’t I get it to show word count as say 50,000 instead of 50000 ?
Second, is there a way so it doesn’t prompt me if I want to accept the change yea h time ?

Both your answers are on the same help page... look at the formatting for the column, and the Prompt to save counts configuration option.

Just curious: Is there a reason that Count Pages copies everything to the Calibre temp folder? I know some plugins do this when modifying the files and then copy them back but I would have expected this to be a read-only operation.

I was re-doing page count for all my eBooks to get them all on the same algorithm (and fill in missing #wordcounts) and noticed my hard drive space shrinking. (I am very glad I moved the folder off my SSD years ago.)

I have no chance of remembering the reason now, but almost certainly it would have been based on a recommendation from chaley or kovid. It might be related to the conversions the plugin has to do if the book is not in particular formats, it might be to do with preventing calibre "touching" the files and messing with the modified time on them...

Are there any known cases of the plugin stalling?

In this case: I was doing it on a stack of OCR'd PDF scans from various sources. I disabled the page counting and left just wordcount. I'm using 64-bit, so I'm thinking it wouldn't have run out of memory.

Perhaps I was just doing too many books at once? Restarting and doing smaller batches (including the book that it got stuck on) seems to be going better.

Always stick to smaller batches, that rule applies to just about every plugin. Especially ones that involve pdfs as historically at least there is always the risk of some form of memory leak.

Memory leak, yeah that would make sense. It's also possible that somehow it got pushed over to swap memory and that slowed it up.

About a decade ago i was doing Conversions, Count Pages and Modify Epub jobs on dozens of 'books' a day with a tight deadline (06:30 out the door to a 100+ recipients).

I satisfied myself that I got more done by:

• setting Behaviour->Jobs Priority to Low;
• Miscellaneous->Max. simultaneous conversion/news download/plugin jobs: to 1
• and unchecking Miscellaneous->Limit the max. simultaneous jobs to the available CPU cores.

Instant gratification and productivity are not necessarily synonymous.
