Log is fine.

And yes, you are running out of memory. You are using 32 bit Calibre v5.44. Switching to 64 bit Calibre will almost certainly prevent that problem in future.

Drag-an-drop

Jimm,

Calibre 6 broke the drag-an-drop feature in FFF under Ubuntu 22.04. (See attached screenshot). Could you please fix this?. I found a workaround, but it's very unwieldy.

It may work better for you, if you are using a proxy, to set the proxy value(s) explicitly in FFF, you have to know your proxy IP & port number, tho:
Code:
[archiveofourown.org]
https_proxy:http://X.X.X.X:YYYY
It's with Astrill. As far as I know it's a VPN

I think the IP changes every time I switch channels, but I can try for a specific one, if I can find it.

I assume you mean that you're drag & dropping a story URL from a AO3 onto the Download Story URLs dialog.
  • What is your workaround?
  • Is it only AO3?
  • Does it make a difference dragging just the link vs a selected block of text containing the link? Dragging a story link from the browser address bar?
  • Are you using the official calibre release and not a vendor version?
  • It looks like you are using a different language, which one? Does it work differently in English? (You can use env var CALIBRE_OVERRIDE_LANG to force language for Calibre.)

Workaround: right click on the story link in the e-mail, "copy link" (have no idea what the proper english phrase is), click over to the dialog, ctrl-V and enter, click back to the e-mail window and N for the next unread message. Repeat.
I don't think it's site specific (see attached photo).
No, I get the same result from dragging a block, as from dragging just the link. I mainly try to drag-an-drop from Thunderbird into the dialog window, and get the previous screenshots result. I tried to drag from the chrome url bar, and the dialog window didn't recognize the url, nothing got dropped into it. Same with urls from the pages, nothing gets dropped into the dialog window. I tried both AO3 and ff.net with the same result.
Yes, I'm using the official version. This problem first appeared when the first release of Calibre 6 came out, 5.44 worked without problems. I have a suspicion, this has something to do with Qt6 and not a specific story site.
I'm using Hungarian. I switched the language to UK english to check, got the same result.

If you haven't tried it yet, I've had transient drag & drop issues resolved by rebooting the computer.

I tend to agree.

You didn't mention before where you dragging from, so I assumed a browser. FFF also has code to accept drag and drop of emails from Thunderbird message list. You should try that.

Attached is a test version that outputs a lot more debug data for drag and drop. If you install it and run Calibre in debug mode, try again, then post the debug log, it may help show the issue.

When using add_to_output_css, do I need to use 'overwrite always' or will 'update always' switch the CSS?

What should happen if I drag the email from the message list into the dialog window? I got a bunch of crap, not a url.
I'm attaching the debug log I got after dragging a link.

In Notepad3, I see a bunch of non-printable characters ([NUL]) between the actual url:

EDIT: Actually, I think it might be something to do with the log being loaded as ANSI rather than UTF -- I've seen [NULs] between letters before when something is supposed to be encoded as, I think, UTF-16 -- that's when they have each letter/character defined by two codes rather than one.

The later. (it would probably be quicker to just try it and see rather than asking all the time...)

On windows at least, Thunderbird saves the email to a .eml file and d-n-d sends over a link to it. FFF knows how to read the file. It's a different code path than URLs or HTML.

The log shows that FFF is being handed a text/html block that doesn't appear to decode correctly. I really don't want to put in manual decoding--it's supposed to be handled farther down.

What happens when you d-n-d a URL or a block of text from an HTML page onto the Comments box in Calibre Edit book dialog? IE, is this type of d-n-d broken everywhere in Calibre, or just FFF?

Qt6 seems to use UTF-16 as default for strings - detailed description.

I didn't think to check before, but you are right. I get the same result, when I d-n-d a link from thunderbird into the comments section of the edit metadata dialog.
When I try to d-n-d from Chrome, the dialog window doesn't accept the link. I haven't the foggiest how to report this as a bug.
