You missed the "very allergic" to cats post. Not the sneezy, itchy kind of allergic, the too much exposure and my lungs close up so I can't breath kind of allergic. Not fun.

I park in a covered garage, so no sun is getting to it to warm it up if I haven't driven it. Plus this is Southern California, it's not like they're freezing.

Hmm, our cats never climb on the car... They'll lay under it and on top of the cover of the small trailer we have (which is both warm and soft

Daffy, maybe you could duct-tape the towels or a piece of old blanket to the smooth side of the plastic mats, to keep them from scratching your car and make them easier to deal with. I can see your point about not wanting to deal with a cat hair covered car tarp, since you're so allergic.

You could try parking the car in the opposite position you normally park it. If you normally park head first, try backing it in. Cats are sometimes suspicious of change and this may be enough of a deterrent.

Another idea is to spay the front window with a good deal of Windex or some other glass cleaner when you park it for the night. The scent might be enough to convince the cat to seek a high position somewhere else. Then, just run the wipers the next time you're ready to go out.

Try to entice the cat to go somewhere else. Throw catnip in places away from your car.

I don't know if any of these will work, but they might be worth a try.

Try a battery powered water pistol, they can hit a cat at 15 metres/yards. Put a teaspoon of washing up liquid in the water. IF you manage to wet the cat it will try to lick itself dry, discover the washing up liquid is unpleasant and usually avoid whatever caused it to get coated in washing up liquid. It works in our garden.

Your neighbours may think you have finally cracked when they spot you hiding in your car armed like Flash Gordon.

Seriously, I can "spay" the windshield with Windex at night. I can't do the catnip thing because it's a condo parking garage and I'd just be passing the problem on to someone else (I'm not *that* evil). I have parked tail in once in a while but I haven't paid enough attention to know if it affected my visitors or not.

I've only seen the critters near my car a couple of times and of course they run away when I get close. I don't think I can every get close enough to spray (spay) them and they are way faster than me. I think they usually visit at night since cars come and go a lot more during the daylight hours.

I have been known to hit the panic button on my car key fob to get the horn to honk and scare them away when I'm walking toward the car (sorry if you think it's evil).
