I think the Libra 2 is an amazing device and much much cheaper than the oasis. Apart from the metal case, and the amazon ecosystem if you're bought into it, I see no advantage of the Oasis over the Libra 2. And the Libra 2 has a better OS/interface, better light, a great battery (better? ) , as well as being much cheaper.

In short, the amazon offerings look lacklustre in comparison.

I had a Libra 2 and liked it very much. I just sent it back in the end as I couldn't justify having two readers which were so similar. Plus I do quite often read the newspaper on my kindle. I am looking forward to seeing the Libra 3, if and when it comes out.

The new Oasis will almost certainly have better battery than the Libra 2. Other than that, agreed on the rest. Unless you want to run KOReader, in which case the Libra 2 is utter trash and it’s a shame the new Oasis will be shipping with yet-unjailbreakable firmware, because it would be the ultimate KOReading device.

How is the newspaper experience on an e-reader? Is it formatted like the broadsheet version, or is it optimised for e-ink?

The only advantages of the Oasis over the Libra are lighter weight and speed. The Libra is slow, compared to the Oasis. But the screen of the Libra is noticeably better.

Hmm... I also have both and am actually going to sell the Oasis. I just like the Libra more. It remains to be seen what a new Oasis will be like. If there is any at all, of course.

I do not think it very likely there will be a newer one. As someone suggested on the Reddit, it is more readily explained as a typo in wake of the web changes with the newest Kindle, and since corrected.

I take 'Item weight' to mean 'the weight of the item' exclusive of what kind of box or plastic it is in when it is put into the shipping container that Amazon uses. At least that's the only meaningful 'Item weight'.

But it's probably lighter than full cases.

There is, of course, a 'weigh' to verify it: put it on a postal scale.

Sure, but specifications in amazon listings can be orders of magnitude off in either direction. (Or in units that make no sense whatsoever.)

It’s poor, frankly. Just the bare bones of the articles, hardly any photos. Very basic. Fine if you're in the mood to read articles with little or no illustrations.

But the oasis even older, is just faster - maybe that is why battery performance is so underwhelming, word search in all books is a wonder, search is much more useful. And the libra 2 battery performance might be better, and it is hard to compare, depends so much on brightness, but it is not many times better. But your mileage may vary.

I have no issues with word search on my Kobos.
