Do you have a Clara 2E?

Seems like changes to keep up with the competition, to me. Waterproofing, a better screen, and more storage seem like a given now.

For me, waterproofing is a very nice improvement. It is all that was missing from the first Clara (well, buttons would be great). Extra storage is nice too. I actually managed to fill most of the 8GB on my Clara. Granted, it was through gross mismanagement on my part, but still.

Mainly, I think updating the charger to USB-C and the next generation screen were what caused Kobo to put out the refreshed Clara. They llikely don't want to be where the Oasis finds itself right now.

That's true. Ereaders have gotten to where phones are. There's just not a lot of stuff left to do. One cheap and easy improvement is using slightly faster processors. That is one feature of the current Kindle Paperwhite that I am jealous of. For an eink device, navigation is very zippy.

I find the speed to be exactly the same when navigating through the menus or turning pages on the HD and the 2E.

This is the first time I've seen the Carta 1200. The 2E screen is definitely better, although I can't explain why. Contrast? Sharpness? The HD screen is just fine, but when placed next to the 2E the difference is apparent no matter how I try to equalize the look via the settings. The 2E is really good.

One oddity: According to specs around the Web, the 2E is about the same height as the HD. This is not true. The 2E is taller. The mistake appears to be in the posted specs for the HD at 159.6. I measure it at closer to 157. The 2E specs are correct at about 159mm. So the 2E is about 2mm taller (as well as about 2mm wider).

Nevertheless, I was able to force the 2E into one of my HD cases (because the faux leather was just stretchy enough). But those tricksters at Kobo moved the spot where the magnet needs to be for the 2E. Ha! Guess I need a new case.

I wonder how long it will take for 3rd party companies to put 2E cases on the market.

Now that it's officially in general release, is there any confirmation on how much RAM and how many cores/the clockspeed (and ideally the manufacturer/model) of the CPU is?

It's still an i.MX6SLL .

(So, basically, it's a Libra 2 with a smaller screen and a different shell).

When you say 'different screen' do you just mean different size (WxH pixels) or something quality-related?

I also have both and I can’t say I see what you see. In fact, because of the smallest form factor, the Clara 2e looks sharper too me. They both have the same screen technology, eInk 1200, but 300ppi on a 6 inch screen should look a tiny bit better.

Why? A 300 ppi on a 32" screen would still have 300 pixels per inch like in a 6-inch 300 ppi screen. Larger screens that have the same ppi would have more pixels. It is not like TV resolutions where a 1080p screen would look better on a 32-inch screen than on a 65-inch screen with the same 1080p resolution.

i'd be surprised if it as more than 512MB of RAM. unless you want waterproofing, Carta 1200 screen, a glued in SD card, and USB-C connection it's a pretty poor update from the Clara HD. the storage should be 32GB instead of only 16GB. obviously other opinions are available as you'll read

best wishes koboy

Yeah, GoodEreader made the same mistake on one of their 2E videos. 300 ppi is 300 ppi. The Clara, Libra and Sage are all equally sharp, because a one inch square on any of their screens has 300 pixels.
