Yes bypass. The database is fully compatible.

This is normal until the next Calibre update catches up with the firmware change. Per the developer, our late friend, davidfor, he recommended keeping "Attempt to support newer firmware" selected. It has always functioned without issue for me. One of davidfor's responses below (in bold):

Quote:

Your Kobo is running an updated firmware/database version. As calibre does not know about this updated firmware, database editing is disabled, to prevent corruption. You can still send books to your Kobo with calibre, but deleting books and managing collections is disabled. If you are willing to experiment and know how to reset your Kobo to Factory defaults, you can override this check by right clicking the device icon in calibre and selecting "Configure this device" and then the "Attempt to support newer firmware" option. Doing so may require you to perform a factory reset of your Kobo.

Yes, that is the message. I know it well as I am the person who is maintaining driver in calibre and have modified the message a couple of times. But, as I said above, what more can I say? The message tells you everything you need to do. You need to either following the instructions in the message or wait for an update to calibre to support the updated firmware. If you don't do anything, you can still send books to the device. That will work with no issues. Calibre won't be able to get the list of books currently on the device, so you will have to work on memory to know what is already there.

If there is an issue with the database version and Calibre, it will be mentioned in the thread for the firmware version.

No problems then, nice.

For the sake of curiosity, what will Calibre can't do if I leave it unchecked? It won't be able to edit the book metadata on the device like series and collections?

Maybe I am being too cautious here but if I enable the override, will be any issues when the next Calibre update arrives and I disable the override?

calibre will avoid using the database.

There is no problem with leaving the enable enabled. That is the way that I've left mine for quite a few years and a fair number of firmware releases without running into problems.

Installed with patches. First impressions are positive. I like the new font. I find it very easy to read, but perhaps that's just the "new and shiny" effect talking. We'll see if I still like it after giving it a few days. Also, hooray for finally giving us a 24 hour clock! And perhaps it's my imagination, but this new firmware seems to operate noticeably snappier than the previous on my Clara.

Everything is A-OK on my Sage.

Only weird quirk is that I can no longer check the battery percentage when reading. Anywhere at the top - even a tap on the battery icon - triggers the Recently Opened behavior. No biggie.

I find that if I click on the right half of the battery icon, it opens the battery information panel without issue. If I try to tap the left half of the battery icon, I get Recently Opened about 50% of the time.

On 4.33, the battery icon is so close to the bezel when reading that I find it extremely difficult to tap on it in a way that registers.

Why not just install Nickelclock to display the time and battery % at the top of your screen all the time? No need to tap anything then.

Just installed this version and the Swipe down to see previously opened books looks excellent. I often read several books at the same time but tend to do it on different readers - but will have to see if such easy book-switching gets me doing it all on my Libra 2

I do like the easy eBook switching it. It works well.

Someone who understands all this technical font innards stuff may be able to correct it but unfortunately I wouldn't know where to start. If Kobo paid a license fee for these maybe they should ask for a discount until they get their missing Regular tables back
I hope they get it sorted in a future firmware. I like Rakuten Serif, but miss ligatures.

Yeah, same here. They should fix that, in my opinion.

I also dislike the thin little line: It makes the screen look like it's defective in some way, as if something has not been cleared on a refresh. They should use a carrot instead of a thin line, and then make the carrot the only active area to bring up one's three titles.

In both ePub and KePub, with Rakuten Serif, I searched for ffi and had a look and ligatures do work.
