My complaint (mostly) is that they don't compare like for like properly. They should have the same eBook with the same font and the same size. Make both look as good as they can.

Are there actual regular readers of mangas and PDFs who don't own an android tablet or iPad and instead read them on a 6 or 7 inches e-ink ereader ?

Are there actual readers of books - you know, the ones with words and no pictures - at GoodE ?

I think they missed their calling, they should review tablets.

This was what I was wondering - if manga is one's main reading material, why a tiny 6-inch screen? It seems very unlikely to me. Ditto PDFs - my 8-inch Sage is the first ereader I've owned that is even almost big enough for PDFs, and I still read the few i have mostly on my 11 inch tablet or my 34-inch monitor

They review ebook readers like they did 15 years ago and never changed. It was not rare before to see ebooks in PDF instead of ePub. Nowadays, publishers that only provide PDF for a novel should not be in the business. And mangas… come on.

I haven't posted on here in a long time but I received my Clara 2e today and was wondering if anyone else who had had any problems with patchy light around the bottom of the screen. It's quite hard to photograph - the rest of the screen looks great to me but I feel like there are a couple of distinct light patches in the bottom corners and then some orange-ish patches along where the progress bar is. When I look head on or slightly downward at the bottom I can also see a couple of odd black marks below the progress bar which I've never noticed on another device before.

I've been really hopeful for this reader as I've been really keen on my Libra 2 for everything except it's a bit too heavy for my hands and the 2e feels great in my hands but this issue is a little irritating and I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing it?

Hard to see in the first picture, but clear on the second.

I would return it.

Or you can choose to live with it…

I’m getting mine friday from Chapters Indigo. Will look closely.

I instantly recognized the black marks below the progress bar because my PocketBook HD 3 has them, in (what appears to be) the same position as yours -- maybe not quite as big. In my case they don't seem to hurt the screen's lighting at all, but I notice them when I look down from an angle. I wondered if I had done something wrong with the reader so, in a way, this is a relief to me.

In your case, if you don't like the lighting issues on your screen, I would exchange the Clara 2E. I've never seen any reason to "put up with" defects on a new device. In my case, I didn't even notice this on the HD 3 until months after I owned it. I have to look for it to see it. As I say, I thought I had somehow gotten dirt into it.

EDIT: I've just checked two Clara HDs and a Tolino Shine 3 and they all have these marks in the same position. Two aren't as noticeable because they're further down. All four of these readers have the same screen, 300 dpi with 13 LEDs (7 white and 6 orange/amber). This makes me think that your screen is mounted a slightly higher in the housing than it should be. Or maybe the light layer was attached higher than it should have been.

Have the same 2 blobs on my 2E
I also have a Clara HD and it also has the same.
Do not see it has any effect on the backlight.

My 4-year-old ClaraHD has these blobs, too, if I hold it at an extreme angle. The fact I haven't noticed them until today tells me they're invisible whilst actually reading a book, in other words, I simply don't care.

Thanks for this! Yes that looks exactly the same. In any event, I contacted Kobo customer service and they've agreed to replacement (for dead pixels, which doesn't seem correct, but *shrug*)

If I had to guess (which is all it would be), it does look like the light layer is a little higher than it should be, because the lighting is perfectly even throughout the screen until pretty much the bottom centimetre or so of the screen. If they were lower down it wouldn't matter but I can see them if I'm looking dead on at my screen.

Otherwise, it's a great wee reader. I'm not sure how I feel about the lack of buttons, as I haven't had a buttonless reader since my PW2, but it is wonderfully light!

Just got my Kobo Clara 2E as well, don't have any front light issues.
I was wondering, is KOReader already supported? Has anyone tested it?
I think it should be supported given that every Kobo reader uses the same base OS, but there could be some device specific quirks.
Thanks for any reply

Can those with a Clara HD post some screen comparison pictures, if the difference is visible at all?
And do you notice any differences in speed between the HD and the 2E?
