No, that's not my impression at all. I think they gave two hoots (not) about saving paper.

I think that JK was very deliberately leaving breadcrumbs and clues, red herrings, etc. in the TIMING of the parallelism. I'm...reasonably sure of it.

Does not make it one iota more enjoyable or forgivable to try to read on a Kindle PPW, though.

You do get them stacked up. I get what she's trying to convey, but DAMN, her book designers really, really let her down and all things considered, I find that shocking. I mean, let's face it, no matter what they think about her, personally (it is after all a Publishing House), she has to be a license for them to print money.

I had the same thought. The chats are side by side and offset. You can see exactly when a new private chat starts alongside the original chat. If the timing of these chats is so important, then reading the chats one after another (by hiding the images and displaying the text hidden in the epub version) will be useless to understanding what is happening in the book. On the other hand, maybe the timing means nothing. In my Goodreads review, someone commented that some of the usernames were changed with no explanation (worm28 to worm38, for example) and the person commenting thought it would mean something later on, but it turned out to have nothing to do with anything. It was a mistake, pure and simple.

I can't say as I use online chat that often, but having multiple chats with multiple people, intermixed, sounds like sucky software.

Take MR, for example. I realize it is not online chat, but it seems very similar to me. It seems strange that the only way to view multiple chats is in one list/window.

I think Rowlings has the next great idea for chat rooms.

This seems like a book that should be returned. It's a Big 5 book published by one of the best selling authors on the planet. If there's enough backlash during early release of course formatting will be fixed.

I haven't used it, but it looks like it has different "channels", which would be similar to the different columns in TIBH?

If you don't have the 6.8 PPW, then forget reading it as is. You'd have to edit the code to hide the images and reveal the text. I'm not sure what I'll do with it on my Libra 2. I'll be giving the text version a go and see how I get on when I do get to it.

I used to use IRC a lot. Private chats were in another window. Private or the main chat window were never in columns. Same with some of the other chats I've been in on a different system. No columns ever.

So whoever formatted this needs a good kick up the bum. One for the formatting and two for columns.

Sorry, but no. Different channels are different channels. Nothing to do with multi-column chats.

I have an 11th Gen, and that's about where my tech-specs knowledge dies off. Want me to tell you what HML or CSS it supports? Can do. Tell you the screen-size? Not so much.
