Well thanks to llasram my tocs now load instantly for my epubs. After removing the fragment identifiers (which aren't needed in any of my epubs as far as I can tell) it's now not an issue
![]() As to the slow chapter loading well as I said in my previous post it doesn't seem to affect me at all so I'm not sure what's causing that. Chapters load just a tad slower than a page turn in all my books. I've read over a 100 epubs on my 505 and the slow toc was the only issue I ever came across (and that's now been fixed with a little editing). The 505 seems to have plenty of power to me ![]() Last edited by deltop; 04-11-2009 at 01:40 PM. |

You, guys, know so much about editing/tweaking HTML files.
Sure you can create a perfect file. I don't know anything about it. All I can do is use a piece of s/w to create ebook. I can learn how to use the s/w with GUI. It is a different thing from learning a whole new subject of editing HTML files, CSS and understanding how it works. And if one doesn't know anything about HTML and CSS, is it as easy to create a perfect* epub as it is easy to create LRF in Book Designer? I think not. I hope I am wrong. * under perfect I mean, when you upload it to the reader, there are no hiccups at all, no slow down when turning pages, accessing TOC, changing font size, no crashes. It might not be easy now, but obviously as the tools mature and more programs support epub as a format it'll become pretty simple to create working trouble free files. It's already pretty easy now with just a few tweaks needed.
I'd rather go the extra mile now, rather than be left with hundreds of lrf files that can't be read on my next device. Of course I'm going the html to epub/lrf route anyway so re-creating any troublesome epub files in the future is a simple as using the "Convert E-book" option in Calibre. For most ebooks I use Book Designer to edit and then export as html to Calibre (after some tidying up). I can then create either an epub OR an lrf file. |

I went with the spacing, as that's how the author arranged things in the Mobipocket & on-line versions, but if you want to override it, the easiest way is probably to run it through Calibre with an override CSS of "p { margin: 0 }" |

The problem is that while BD's good as far as it goes, if you want to go beyond that, e.g. drop-caps, aren't you stuck? HTML/CSS might be a steeper learning curve than BD, but it should go further, i.e. a lot more things should be possible with it. |

slow on new chapters
I have experienced the exact same problem on my Sony Reader 505. Takes between 10 and 20 seconds to turn a page, but only for a new chapter, usual speed for other pages.
In my instance, I am reading a book bought from recommended Sony bookstore, ePUB format. Any ideas on how to fix this much appreciated. |

Try a reset of your reader. The reset is on the back of the reader. You'll need a paperclip or a pin to press the button. Also, then you'll need to hold the power switch for a bit to turn it off.
