Take screenshot from Kobo

I tweaked my FBGrab build, it should now handle Kobo devices properly.

It generates PNG files, which are far easier to work with .

tshering tested it on a Touch, give me a shout if it's broken on other devices.

I modified the code from the first post to work with a framebuffer dump from my Aura HD:

There is a 8 pixel wide border outside the screen; my code does not cut that off, but it is good enough for a quick screenshot or to get debug information.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to note that this still works on the KA1 running 4.4.9298 firmware.

The saved screenshots are now in PNG format.

I saw a color screenshot of the homescreen posted here in the forum.

How do we do that? The book covers are in color.

The screen is grayscale. But behind the screen if something is in color, a screenshot will be in color.

This book covers are in color in Calibre. Does Calibre convert them to grayscale?

It does whatever you have configured the calibre driver (KOBOTOUCH or KOBOTOUCHEXTENDED) to do. Have a look at the 'Collections, covers & uploads' tab.

There's a similar option in the 'Kobo Utilities' calibre plugin for the option 'Upload covers for selected books'.

In the KoboTouchExtended driver under the Collections, covers & uploads tab, you have Upload covers and Upload black and white covers both checked.

That does the converting to grayscale and dithering and uploads the cover thumbnails.

That is the thing, both my kobo touch and kobotouch extended settings are set like this, so it should take color screenshot but still B&W screenshots are produced.

What happens if you take a screenshot of the cover that's in the eBook? That should not have been converted to grayscale and should still be in color.

They are in color.

But Homescreen covers are in grayscale

I suggest you ask in the KoboTouchExtended thread if it's maybe a bug and it's converting to grayscale anyway. But before you do that, I suggest plugging in your Kobo and having a look at the thumbnails and see if they are color or grayscale.

Maybe it's a change in the firmware that the home screen screen caps are not in color.
