How to change Tag Browser filtering order

I have a user defined column called "Genre" under preferences > look & feel > Tag browser i have specified that Genre is a Category with Hierarchical items.

when you browse in the tag browser and click on a genre, for example, Nonfiction.Computer Science it shows a green plus sign and the search bar shows #genre:"=Nonfiction.Computer Science" and it only shows books with the exact Genre and not those that have a sub-genre like Nonfiction.Computer Science.Machine Learning.

In order to show all books belonging to a genre including those in sub-genres i have to click again, then the green plus sign changes to two green plus signs and the search bar shows #genre:"=.Nonfiction.Computer Science".

I wish to change the behavior of the tag browser such that when clicking on a Genre the first search filter applied is the two green plus signs and on a second click go to the single plus sign.

is this possible and how can i go about doing this?

I once requested something similar and was told that Qt issues made it not feasible.

Not that it matters, but I don't recall this request.

In any event, changing the order of the searches when clicking on an item isn't a Qt thing, and wasn't particularly hard as long as the behavior of a particular search didn't change. It is now in calibre source, with the setup on a new third tab in Prefs / L&F / Tag browser. While adding it I changed the contents of the other two tabs somewhat.

I only see one tab in Prefs / L&F / Tag Browser (i'm on calibre 6.3 desktop windows 10), just to be sure by calibre source you mean the source code? so you actually went to the source code and added the feature? that's crazy, are you a calibre dev? cool.

if that's the case will this be making it's way to the next update?

Very likely. Unlike Kovid Goyal who tends to post the location of the source code changes, chaley just lets us know it's been checked in. Either way, it's going to be in the next release. Umm... barring testing showing a showstopper bug in which case the change may either be scrapped or delayed.

Just for you, I added Ctrl-Up and Ctrl-Down keyboard accelerators to complement the arrows for the various reorderable lists in Preferences. I think I got them all.
