True. The book in question was fine after a restart, though. I could go back and forth over that chapter break with no issue.

Unfortenately I still had a freeze the day that I installed this version. Hopefully the frequency of freezes is not increasing as in the previous versions.
Especially if you are doing fast paging or fast switching of functions/actions or searching then after a while it tends to freeze.

I wait a while as sometimes the device starts responding on a new action. When still nothing happens then I close the magnetic cover and reopen it and sometimes that even helps.
As a final resort I switch the device off by keeping the power button for about 15 seconds and then it sometimes restarts automatically. If that is not happening I start it manually and continue reading till a new freeze comes.
I always put the device on sleep when not reading.

I have the feeling that the software has some faults/bugs causing memory leakage and once the last free piece of memory is occupied and or too less memory free for executing the next action Kobo Libra 2 freezes and only a reboot will solve the issue.

Dang! I've been having a lot of hangs on my Libra 2 with the current firmware (4.33.19759). I use a Sleepcover over, and tend to close the Sleepcover with a book file still open. When I reopen the Sleepcover (revealing the book I was previously reading), I often go to the Home screen to chose a different book ... and the device hangs on the home screen, requiring a reboot. Very frustrating.

No hangs on 4.33.19759, but random restarts mid-page.
Just installed 4.32 to see if that cures it.

With 4.33.19759 on my Sage, the only book that I've found consistent hangs with is the calibre user manual. That ePub also made epubcheck very unhappy when I was looking at it. OTOH, it works fine in calibre's ebook-viewer. Oddly, the only ePub I have that makes InDesign looks like a good tool for creating ePubs.

I've been reading an eBook in KePub and I've not had a hang or reboot yet. But I do make sure that before I plug in the Kobo, I have an ePub eBook open. This is with the Libra 2.

No hangs on either my Sage or the Libra 2 with 4.32 firmware. Both epubs and kepubs.

Yes. At least Vellum spits out valid ePub 3 code.

For instance, you will see this multiple times in the body of the XHTML files:

Code:
      <style>
      code {
        font-size: 1em;
        background-color: transparent;
        font-family: sans-serif;
      }
      </style>
Now if this had been added between the <head></head> element tags such as:

Code:
  <style type="text/css" title="override_css">
      code {
        font-size: 1em;
        background-color: transparent;
        font-family: sans-serif;
      }
  </style>
It would have been worked and not triggered errors.

I've also attached the epubcheck output to this message.
Attached Files
File Type: txt calibre_user_manual_epubcheck.txt (136.9 KB, 74 views)

That is a mess. I never thought I'd see something worse then Vellum.

All the firmware updates in the world won't fix the crappy power efficiency of the components they used and the the resulting substandard battery life on the Libra 2. As for the crashes, devs have said in effect that the kernel of the Libra 2 would required a rewrite from scratch to become stable, and that the current kernel is just bad bad bad. I wouldn't hold my breath for it. It's a nice looking device though

I'm going to have to disagree on the "substandard battery life" of the Libra 2. I'm finding the battery life to be good. What is it you are doing that's causing the battery to be poor?

The worse stability on the Libra 2 is with KePub. I make sure that I'm displaying an ePub before I plug it into the computer.

That works too. But given that most of the time I'm reading something in ePub, I don't have to do anything before plugging.
