And as we have seen, not having Windows Media Player can cause problems. I don't use Windows Media Player. I use other media players instead like Plex, VLC, and Foobar2000. But I do need the media stuff as I do use Skype to make overseas calls and as we have seen, to use Calibre's Viewer.

So what should we expect going forward?
Those of us on Win N can no longer use Calibre 6 and above? (I. e. have to stay on Calibre 5 which works just fine on Win N) |

The Viewer annoyingly hangs in several versions up to the current v6.4 on Linux (Mint 20.3 with Mate), so I'm having to use Foliate instead which is actually better, but I can't see to be able to reopen files from its library, so I have to launch it from the dubious "Open With" right-click sub-menu on the "EPUB" item in the preview "Format" field.

If you don't want calibre to use its viewer for a particular format uncheck its entry in the Preferences->Behaviour->Use internal viewer for: list and it will invoke the default handler you have set in your OS. Then if you wanted to have the option of using calibre's ebook-viewer you could add it to the calibre Open With list - and give it a keyboard shortcut. BR |

As a follow-up to this: a workaround for this issue may have found its way into the Qt 6.5, 6.4, and 6.3 codebase. Perhaps it will even be released in 6.3.3. The problem was that those wmf dlls were delay-loaded in Qt5 WebEngine, but were not delay-loaded in Qt6 6.2+ WebEngine (not at first anyway).
https://code.qt.io/cgit/qt/qtwebengi...df9b9b3a8daae6 Seems like a pretty straight-forward workaround for those who build their own Qt. I've not tested if it works yet, but hope to soon. Last edited by DiapDealer; 09-23-2022 at 10:30 AM. |

cool, thanks. I might rebuild the windows Qt WebEngine bundled with calibre to explicitly delay load those dlls.

No problem. Hopefully it eliminates the issue with Windows N and no mediapack.
